Tundra Brake upgrade question #257

Ok Tundra Brake upgrade specialists....
heres my question,

I am running Procomp 7089 extreme alloy
7089-6883
16x8, 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern
Backspace = 4.5 in.
Max Load = 2200lbs
Finish = Flat Black
Hub Centric = No
Offset = 0mm

visual inspection shows I dont have very much space between the caliper and
the wheels,

If I run 1.25 or 1.5 inch wheel spacers can I do the 231mm upgrade instead of the 199mm upgrade?

does anyone know? I heard somewhere that someone thought that the 231 calipers were just "wider" and not any "taller" than the 199mm or the stock 4runner calipers. but what about the rotor size? isnt the diameter of the 231 rotors larger than the diameter of the 199??

anyone know for positive?

So I should be able to run wheel spacers and get the 231mm to fit a 16x8 wheel? so the rotors/calipers arent any larger in diameter than the stock 4runner ones?? where does the added stopping power come from then??

I thought the surface area of the Tundra Rotors/pads were larger to dissipate more heat, etc. to help stopping power??

The rotors are thicker, but the diameter is the same....the calipers are bigger and so are the pads. When I ran Tacoma wheels(no offset) I had 1.25" spacers on there and had no problems at all...when I went to LC wheels with no spacers I had just a tiny bit of rubbing on the inside of the wheel...so I would imagine running any kind of spacer 1" or more would more than care for any issue you might be concerned with...

Im just not sure which toyota wheels my Procomps are closer too...

are they closer to the ones that ChildrenofBodom have and your LC's?? or are they closer to the Tacoma ones you had and my old stock ones??

I know the tacoma ones were "flat"...they had no bowl to them at all...thats why I used the spacers to push them back out to the edge of the fender. The LC's obviously aren't flat, and that may be why they rubbed a little on the calipers. I think the deeper the bowl of the wheel(and please excuse my lack of official terminology) the more chance of rubbing and the more of a need for spacers.

I just looked the stock 4Runner offset, they have an offset of 4 5/8.

Mine according to TundraSolutions are also 4 5/8, makes no sense... and YotaTech says 4.5"... NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE! No way it's only 1/8" off of the stock 4Runner wheels.

Gonna do more searchin!

EDIT: A few sources say my wheels are of 5.5" backspacing... some 5"... so basically... yeh. I'm going with the 5.5 guess, maybe a 1" spacer/adapter would be nice... if I want those 285s.

My wheels came on a Tundra in the first place so I wasn't really thinking about whether or not they'd fit...
