tundra break mod?

hello i just was reading about the tundra break upgrade. I have the heating issue on my 2000 toyota 4runner 3.4, i was woundering what year tundra calipers i need? should i just get 2000 tundra calipers too? or is there only a cupple years they where the same?

uhm like all other wheels...? what do you mean. Ive been trying to find out if the upgrade will work with the stock 16 inch rims?

oh its the 6 spoke wheels. i see where i need to grind for the 231mm do i need to grind alot of it or just a little?

Simple answer: go with the 199mm (S13WE) calipers under your stock 16" rims. The larger 231mm (13WL) will be more expensive and there are mixed reports of whether they will fit under stock 16" rims.

Also, meant to say that '03 was when the Tundra went to the larger brakes. If you search ANY Tundra from 2000-2002, you'll get what you need.

If you had the 5 spokes I'd say get the 231 calipers as I did. With the 6 spokes I'd recommend getting 199mm calipers. I had to grind my 6 spoke spare down a fair amount to clear those 231 calipers. The rotors will be the same so you will still get the benefit of the larger rotors.

My research found that there is actually less contact area on the pads for the 231mm calipers than there is for the 199mm calipers. The main difference in the pads is the backing plate. The pistons between the two are identical in size, so there isn't any more stopping "power" with the 231mm calipers. The only thing that they might do better than the 199mm is have a larger capacity to store braking heat due to the larger mass of the caliper.

yeah i have the older 3-spoke design, i was hoping that i can find a truck in the junk yard so if i found the 231's i didnt wanna pass them up if i only needed to grind it down a tiny bit

I don't know if the Tundra upgrade works on a 4th gen 4runner or if it would even be an improvement. You're in the 3rd gen section so I don't know if you'll get answers on brake upgrades for your truck here.
