Tundra more HP?

How come the Tundra has 282-hp and 4Runners only 270? Isn't this the same engine?

I tired searching but couldn't find an explanation.

I don't know how true this is but someone told me that there is a 270 HP limit on certain vehicles built and sold in Japan. There are several vehicles that have 270 or less HP, sounds like there may be something to that.

I found some information on the self-imposed Japanese horsepower limit of 280ps (approx. 275HP). From what I read the limit is coming to an end.

282hp / 325tq. More HP, less Torque. I think the engine is tuned slightly different for marketing purposes. Nissan, Ford, Dodge have a HP war going on (300 or more available). Toyota needed to stay in the game.


I don't think the 4.7 is sold in Japan?

I think it is because trucks have different emissions standards than SUV's since they are considered passenger vehicles. So basically it has to do with exhaust and the cats. Im not 100% sure on this tho.

I read some where that it has to do with the size of the engine compartment in the 4runner dictated smaller headers and restricted exhaust and this is the only difference.

That is what I remember as well....this would also explain the Runner's higher torque number.
