Tundra TRD Shocks on 3rd Gen T4R?

Hi. Does anyone have any more info or input on this? I'm going for the 3" OME ToyTech lift and while I'm at it, I'm going to be upgrading the shocks too. Does anyone know if the 08-10 Tundra TRD Bilstein shocks will work? They are Bilstein Part #'s 48510-OC030 Front, 48530-OC030 Rear.

if you are going to be getting the OME coils, the best thing to do would be get OME shocks. The valving and design is matched for the coils.

Thanks steezemcqueen. I'm trying to do this on the cheaps and i have a chance to get all 4 Tundra TRD Bilstein shocks for $85 and they only have 6k miles on 'em. Do you think they use the same bolt pattern? Will they fit on my 4Runner with larger coils? Any more info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

but like steeze said, if your using OME coils it is best to use OME struts/shocks

Thanks for the links Mauzer. I think I read that the coils were OK, but the shocks and struts are too big and the bolt pattern is different? Heard any of this? Thanks again!

steezemcqueen, thanks again for all your great advise and info. Much appreciated. I asked you the same question on another thread; Why wouldn't it work? Especially with some LC coils? Wouldn't the shocks give me more travel?

It's not really a question of if it will "work" or not, it's if it will be a good fit or something along those lines. I'm sure you COULD use it but it's most likely not recommended. Reasons being: The Tundra shocks are probably not long enough to compliment the travel of the LC coils, The valving is totally different because the Tundra is alot lighter in the rear than an SUV such as the LC or 4runner. The front shocks could possibly work, but I've never tried it or heard of anyone trying it. If you are willing to test the waters and give us a definite answer if they "work" or not that'll be awesome though! Good luck!!

Your putting the FRONT LC coils on the REAR of your Runner correct? Rear LC coils only work on 2nd gen Runners. Wait, I thought you were going with an OME setup? If not look into 1st gen Tundra TRD coils for the front.

I'm going for used Tundra 4WD coilovers for $80 up front and front LC coils in the rear for $40 plus some rear shocks, don't know which yet. So for around $200, I might get a 3.5" to 4.5" lift. Got any idea on some good travel rear shocks and any other advise? Thanks for your input as well as everyone else's.

Ok so i don't mean to be a downer or anything but i really don't think that the 07 up tundra shocks will work. The reason that the 00-06 tundra shocks work well in the 3rd gen is that they share a lot of the same parts and the front suspension is very similar in design. The 07 and up tundra is a different beast. the coils themselves are much bigger in diameter and the shocks are valved for a much heavier V8 and a truck frame. I am all for saving money but i think you would be better off putting that $80 towards shocks that you know work for your 3rd gen. Being a guinea pig for something is usually not the way to save money.

Steeze is right about the different valving etc. I would just go with 1st gen (00-06) tundra front shocks and rear LC shocks. I used Monroe Gas-magnum shocks and I got them for about $80 shipped. Just look up Gas-magnum shocks for a stock 91-97 LC. I got them and they work great!

//EDIT: And as a heads up, with tundra coils in the front, don't expect too much lift. Mine is a 99 with the tall coils and it gave me 2" of lift with the top-out spacer from toytec. My rear is 8 wrap LC coils and gave me about 4.5" of lift but the rake is not bad at all. Make sure you check how many wraps the LC coils you're getting to make sure they will sorta match the fronts

Are you using the top out spacer or the adjustable bilies with your front Tundra coils? The reason the Tundra coils started being used over the OME coils is that they are a progressive coil so they make for a smoother ride. You do however have to either add a spacer or use adjustable coils to gain the full 3".

jrebolloso: Make sure you use your "top hat" with the Tundra's coil isolator, you can't just throw the Tundra unit in as is. So its the 4Runner top hat (aka strut mount) then the Tundra's coil isolator (piece that goes right under the top hat) then the Tundra coil put together with the strut. The reason being that the Tundra top hat has a larger diameter so it will not bolt up to the Runner's factory holes, this also means that tundra coils are a larger diameter so you have to use the Tundra isolator to keep the coils in the strut assembly. Hope that makes sense to ya :lmao:

DAMN! Thats's some info Mauzer! But damn good info. But I got it. Most is on order, and on the quickness since my right/rear suspension has gone out.

ok guys,
i got 3" spacers for the front and am looking for the rear lift...cheap and affordable. i can access a pair of 1981-1982 Land cruiser coils to put in the rear of my 3rd gen 4runner (3rd genz) will this work? eed help ASAP. i've owned TOYS and this is my first time modifying one for fun. all my other stuff has had lift put in beforehand. so this will be my first time doing it on my own.
