Hello -

Yes, I am relatively new to this Engine.

Can not find a Main Vacuum Line to hookup Vacuum Guage to for a Overall Engine Intake Vacuum Test ???

Where is a Good Hookup Point for my 2 wire Tachometer for Test Purposes ??

I'm not sure what a "2 wire tachometer" is, but I use a timing light with the RPM readout to check my RPM when I'm doing the timing or adjusting idle RPM. I'd suggest getting one of those, they're pretty handy.

Tachometer

Thanks for Reply.

My two wire Tachometer is a section of a small Engine Analyzer which is composed of a Tachometer, Dwell Meter and Voltmeter.
The two wires of Tachometer are Ground connection and Positive Tach connection.

On many older other vehicles their exists a Tach connection coming off the distributor . . .

IS THEIR A TACH Connect within the Little Diagnostic Electrical Test Point Box on the Right Side of the Engine Compartment Cowl which sits just above the passenger front shock absorber mount ???

My '86 is a little different from yours, I don't have something like that. What I do have is a Factory Service Manual (FSM) that I purchased off of e-bay or Amazon. It's been a great help, like today I replaced my faulty TPS (throttle position sensor), it had all the info on how to test it and adjust it. They're expensive, $85-120, but it's saved me quite a bit in time AND money : )

Thanks "mikesmith140" and "flyinhawian 01" !

I will give the "Ignition Pulsed Output IG- Signal
a try with my multimeter first, ( understanding that this may be a negative polarity Signal ), then possibly to my tachometer.
I appreciate the Diagnostic Connector Layout !

I feel the Truck is in pretty good shape for 220 K miles - recently this Summer completed ***
(1) Compression Test (2) Spark Plug's New (3) Valve Adjust (4) Cleaned Throttle Body Intake.
Yes, I need to do the TPS Adjust and Clean procedure more thoroughly - - I've seen on threads that this style Engine loves much attention in the TPS and Throttle Body areas !

IG- signal

I placed my Craftsman 82139 multimeter on the Frequency / % Duty Cycle selection reading scale. Positive multimeter lead on the "IG-" test point within the Trucks Diagnostic Connector, Negative lead on Neg. Battery Terminal post.
The Frequency Readout was 24 Hz at Low Idle and increased proportionally up to >100 Hz at Higher acceleration.
This definitivly clarifies the earlier post reply concerning the "IG- Signal" relationship to Tach / RPM reading !

Next 1 : A math equation interpolation to use my Craftsman Multimeter (as above) to correlate Frequency to RPM using the IG- test point.
Next 2 : Possibly take the risk of hooking up my
Tachometer / Small Engine Analyzer to the " IG- signal " test point.

Tach Test Point

Whola Whola

The best positive Tachometer Lead connect point on this Truck is the Negative Ignition Coil Terminal ! Tachometer Negative Lead connect to Battery / Chassis Ground !
