$3,500 is a good price for that 4runner. I'm not a huge fan of the 22rte only because they are expensive to get good parts for and they're hard to find. But the price is definitely right! Sweet rig!
 
84 and 85 runners never came with a 22ret or the digital dash as far as I know. In fact I believe all 84 runners were carbed. So someone has swapped in both the engine and the dash. but looks like it was done well. and that isn't a bad deal especially if it got the R151f trans as well. Also the turbo rear diffs were the same as the later V6 diffs. Also strange that the drivers door and the hood and both front fenders are grey with the rest of the truck is green. Worth looking at if anybody is close.

those are 84 front SR5 seats though but the back seats are from another year. also the rear axle is 84/5 so the likelihood of turbo rear diff is slim.

I have heard once or twice that the EFI turbo 4Runners were available in Canada in '85. I haven't ever seen one though, and didn't believe it until today when I was on the phone with engnbldr, and he told me there's two different '85 blocks, and one of the differences is a flat spot cast in that they drill out for the oil pump for the turbo. In early '85.

edit - but now that I look at his cardomain, yeah, it's a swap, it started carbed. I'll shut up now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but all turbo runners where auto trannys . if you look at the dash above the miles it says ECT thats auto tranny
 
The r151f manual tranny ONLY came in turbo trucks/runners.

No idea why it has the ECT. Maybe its just there in case it had an auto, so they didnt have to make 2 types digital dashes? Beats me.

Let me text my bff Toyoda and see what up. Haha.
 
I would be willing to bet that that 4runner was always a manual. The donor vehicle was an auto which is why he has the auto gauge cluster. The turbo trucks had an option for a manual tranny and they didn't have the digital gauge. Odds are, he still has the w56 manual tranny and the 84 rear end.

Either way, the price is right and the rig looks clean. If I was in the market for another 4runner I would seriously consider this one if the turbocharger is healthy. A lot of those 22rte parts are rare and hard to find.

like sv-dude says surely from a auto 86/87 turbo runner and same stock w56 from the the 84, the dashes are made different a auto dash has the ect and a 5 speed doesn't i got my sr5 gauge cluster out of a auto runner nice runner though the price is good buy it sv and stop talking about jk's :roadkill:
 
Even if the turbo was nice, those CT-20's are awful turbos from what I've read... CT-26 swap FTW. A lot of work but it seems worth it.

Personally, I'd swap in the AFM from a Mazda MX6/626/Ford Probe, it fits in the first gen 4Runner, and the gear is HUGE compared to the Toyota one. Lots of adjustability.

CT-26 + Vacuum/Boost gauge + Mazda AFM + larger injectors + wideband = Sounds like fun! Rig up an intercooler from the same car and damn!
