turbo and SC

So I just finished watching the Powerblock episodes with the tacoma and it got me wondering if you could do a SC and a turbo, its probably a rediculous thought but would it work?

edit: i saw it too, they did an assmount sts kit like i have on my crown vic (which is for sale )

i like how they plumbed the intake into that toolbox in the bed

I like the convenience of those turbo kits, but it seems like doing it on a truck or suv is just asking for someone with a battery powered sawzall to come snatch more than your cat ....

In theory it would work but you would have to bullet proof the engine first. Low compression piston, Forged I beam rods. heavy duty head studs and increased cooling capabilities.


I have seen the big diesel motors that were bi-turbo supercharged .

and i know that would happen with all the crooked ppl in the world. and Singtoe that is one sexi engine

Sometimes its called "Twincharged". HKS used to make a twincharger kit that fit on the 1st gen Toyota MR2s that were supercharged from the factory. Its always complex because you have to worry about things like:
--the supercharger blowing boost out through the turbo the wrong way, which can damage a turbo really fast
--in what order is the air gonna pass through all the components turbo -> SC -> Intercooler, or SC -> turbo -> intercooler, or Turbo -> intercooler -> SC
--Also, if the turbo can make more boost than the SC, then the SC becomes a point at which boost can escape from the system, instead of go into the engine like you would want it to.

When you get it all set up right though, it can be devastatingly quick, as the supercharger makes boost immediately while the turbo is spooling-up, eliminating turbo-lag.

Yea I wish I knew enough about this stuff and had the mula to modify the engine to where it could handle all of that. I know your thinking if you had that kind of money why not get a sports car that could handle that, well the main reason I would like to do that is because I dont know anyone else who has it done lol:shrug:

There was actually a tacoma that had this set up. It made less power then with either units on the engine by themselves.

I think Audi and VW do this, and I think Lancia started it, i hear they are as smooth as falling down a flight of stairs in leg calipers.

that picture of that engine is odd..the turbos pull their air from the engine?

I would like the turbo as it is free power where as all of the other mods necessary to do the SC

I know this is an old thread and all but...

That's pretty cool and also seems like a good way to grenade your engine. But that's me making assumptions not knowing anything on how it was put together.
