Turbo kit anyone???

Hey...newbee here.....

just got my 1996 4runner about a month ago...3.4 5 speed....

im 90 % sure im going to spend a little time this summer and build a turbo system for it. Lots of room and looks like it could be done fairly cost friendly....... ive engineered many more difficult.....
has there been much of a asking for a turbo for these and i guess the tacoma would be the same......i would like your imput....if there is enough interest ill jig the kit ..........( over 15 years in the turbo system design business.. i own pro turbo systems.(www.proturbosystems.net) for those interested.)

just thought w ould share the fun if there were more looking for the same

Most people don't do the kit since we have the safer OEM SC and even with fuel mods it can be done for easily under $2500 and the SC can be boosted a little to pretty much max out the stock horsepower handling capability of the stock engine.

I agree with you on that, much easier and simple to go with the TRD SC'er. Turbos require a lot of maintance, they run hot, and not as trouble free as a SC'er, and for the guys with waranty still on their trucks, the dealer/factory backs the TRD SC'er. Unless you plan on doing a full rebuild on your motor/internals to handle the extra boost of a turbo, you cant boost that much PSI without damaging or burning up the motor.

I doubt anyone has done the testing to figure out where the 3.4lts failure point is, other then TRD or Toyota. Personaly, i wouldnt push it much over 330HP. The TRD SC'er can handle 265HP with no problems, but i would think Toyota did this for a reason, but hell i dunno, ive heard of other people tweakin the motors to achive a lot more power then that the factory and TRD suggests. I wouldnt want to use my truck as the test bed or push it to that breaking point.
