turn off beep on remote entry

Hi,
Anyone know how to turn off the beep when you use the keyless entry fob? In the manual it seems to be an option that the dealer can do (I wonder how much $$$), I'm asking if it can be done at home. On my wife's Subaru you just hold the lock and unlock buttons down together for 2 sec to toggle the beep feature. This doesn't work on my 4runner.

You're going to find that most dealers will charge you for that if it can be done. There is a list of customizable options in your manual. I'm to lazy to see if this is one.

The dealer should not charge you for that. I brought mine in with a list of about 10 different things I wanted customized including the annoying seat belt reminder. They did them all at no charge and I didnt even have an appointment!

The manual doesnt list all of them. Here is everything that can be changed. I just brought this to them after highlighting everything I wanted done. As far as the beep goes, I just had them lower the volume of it to 3...nice and subtle.

Yeah I just wrote down the list of things I wanted customized while it was at the dealer for an oil change. Wasn't charged anything.

1 question though - I had it programmed so when you hold the unlock button, it'll roll down all the windows. I requested that they make it so you can use the transmitter to roll up all the windows as well (I assume it would be the lock button?) but they said that option wasn't available and programmed it for my mechanical key in the door instead.

So my question, has anyone had both the roll down/roll up with transmitter customized (not those with smart key).? It lists the option right in the manual...

No it doesn't. It clearly shows "Wireless remote control linked operation (open)" for the Power Windows and "(open only)" with the moon roof. There is no "(closed)" for the wireless like there is for the mechanical locks. You can only roll the windows down with the wireless remote key.

You have a way with words Seattle Mike. Forgive me, I stand corrected. It is not in the owner's manual. It is however, in the 4Runner TIS FSM. This document is the one I meant to refer to.

Sorry if I came off abrupt, but some days it seems like everyone and his brother is posting opinion as fact, so I try to correct things when I can. I did look up the TIS info (thanks again nashman!) and I agree the option is listed, but there is a huge caveat at the top of that section as well:
When the customer requests a change in a function, first make sure that the function can be customized.

Does this apply to the "P/W Up W/ Transmitter" option? I honestly don't know, but as it wasn't listed on the customization sheet, I never thought to ask about it either. I'll roll over to Toyota of Lake City tomorrow and see what's what and report back.

I'm in Northern VA as well. Which dealership did you go to to to get your windows to roll down with the remote? It's almost time for a 5,000 mile service and wanted to get it done also. Thanks!
 
In an effort to get to the bottom of this, I took my 4Runner back in to the dealer, armed with copies of both the Customization section from the Owner's Manual and the list from the TIS FSM page. The Service Manager read both sheets, highlighted the portion regarding the "P/W Up W/ Transmitter" from the TIS sheet, agreed to turn it on if possible, and took my keys and my truck back to the technician and his Techstream whirlybang.

The end result? "Option not supported by this vehicle", which means there is no software switch to toggle or enable. This probably explains its exclusion from the Owner's Manual. He wasn't able to explain *why* it wasn't an included option, but confirmed that it was not some setting that was hidden or omitted from the manual by accident.

I hope this clear things up.
 
I guess a quick way to disable the beep would be to disconnect one of the wires leading to the component that makes the beep (somewhere around the left wheel well, I think - there are diagrams in the repair manual).

Not sure if there's a removable connector on that component or if doing so would disable other things but if it worked it would be ab$olutely free!

The Japanese 4th gen (Hiluxsurf) had remote window up functionality for all five windows. There was speculation that the US legal environment was to blame for the crippled US functionality (no remote up for rear window) and that explanation rings just as plausible today.

I believe this is because the remote operation of this is pretty manual. By this, I mean that you have to hold the button for the entire duration of the window down function. I then tested the manual key switch to roll the window up, and it does not detect if something is impeding the window from rolling up, thereby posing a safety concern. Just a thought...

i dont know if im missing this somewhere, or it just isnt an option, but is there a way to get the lights to turn off automatically when it detects enough light? my wifes camry did it, but the new 4runner doesnt....

I am not sure, but I believe that is only an option on the Limited. I know the TE doesn't have that feature.
