Turn signal question

The signals next to the foglights....how come some 4runners have the parking lights on but when I click my light switch up once it only turns on the lights next to the headlights.

Is this only for limiteds?(I have sport) or does it only come on trucks w/ DRL's?

I think its because of the DRLs...the DRLs are on until you turn the headlights on

If your truck does not have DRL, then those signal lamps will not light when you turn on your parking lights. I have a sport with DRL's and mine stay lit when the lights are off or when the parking lights are on. This is not a feature only for the Limiteds. I actually have not seen a 2003 or 2004 without DRL's!

I have now seen a 4Runner without DRL's! I really did not care if my truck had DRL's or if it did not. In the New York/New Jersey area, most of the 4Runner's are shipped with the DRL's. Every 4Runner I test drove and see on the road has them. That is how I spot them while driving!

No DRLs here. I haven't seen one with DRLs either. In any case, they're a cheap upgrade if you want them. Just purchase the DRL flasher relay and plug it in.

I used to want the DRL, but then I leave my lights on 24/7 so I don't really care anymore. They turn off after 30 seconds when you leave the car, or if you hit the lock button twice they turn off.

I do wish the turn signals were always illuminated and then blinked when you signaled. Thats the way it was set up on my celica...

I was doing that but turning on the headlamps dims the indicator lights on the cabin temperature controls so that I can not see them.

They turn off after 30 seconds when you leave the car, or if you hit the lock button twice they turn off....

I read in the alarm manual that hitting the lock button twice turns off the headlights, but mine does not work. Is this a programmable function like the headlight auto off delay time? I have the port "package alarm", not R3200.

My keyless entry system will turn off the lights when I press the lock button twice. I don't have any alarm system, just the theft deterrent system (transponder keys) and keyless entry.

The lights will not turn off automatically or with the key if you put the lights on after turning off the engine. A couple of weeks ago I accidently shut off my lights so I turned them on after the engine was off. I went to close them with the key and the lights just stayed on. I then went into the car and turned the key to the one position and then tried again and it worked. The lights have to be turned on either before of while the engine is on or the key is turned to the on position.

Interesting! I'll have to check that out. So when you turned the lights on they key was at ACC? I have tried turning the lights on without the key in at all and they didnt work.

I believe in the case where they don't shut-off with the standard timer (30 secs or whatever you have programamed), they will still shut off after 30 minutes to prevent battery discharge. I don't plan to test this any time soon.

I do not plan on testing the 30 minute fact either. The key has to be on the ON position or the engine has to be running when you turn on the lights. I just tried it with the key in ACC and the off position. Does not work.

This is from the service manual.

When all doors are closed after opening some or all of them after the Ignition SW is turned from ON to OFF with the head and tail lamps ON, these lamps will remain ON for 30 seconds after the doors are closed and then go OUT automatically. Pressing the lock SW on a wireless controller twice in succession turns OFF the lamps instantly.

In my case, the 30 second delay has been reprogrammed to 0 seconds. My lights go off as soon as I open the door (following the procedure above).

In all other cases, the lights will be shut off after 30 minutes. This second rule applies to interior lights too. If you leave a door open the interior lights will automatically shut off in 30 minutes.
