Turning a 1998 console into a 1999 or higher

Is it possible to change out my console in my 98 4runner to a 99 or higher? I really like the cupholders, button positions and everything else about the 99-02.

I think the only problem would be to move the handbrake over towards the passenger a little.

upper console - around ac and radio

Thanks for the response - that's great info. I was looking to change the uper area as well - around the ac and radio. I know the air vent would have to be modified, but beyond that, what else? thanks.

why?? that part functions the exact same way, youd just be moving guages around.

so i could use the back window button below the clock instead of installing one next to the steering wheel and i just like the upper console better on the 99-02 years. i would also gain an extra 12v plug.

i guess that makes sense, but no offense... you shouldve bought a 99-02.

for one, i wasn't willing to pay a ton more for a new model - this was 2 years ago - and second, these are little things you just find out after having a car and finding out what you like/don't like. i'm sure there are things you like on the newer models that you wish you had on yours.
