Turning VSC Off in H2

I was wondering how to turn off VSC in H2 (is it even possible)? I have an 07 SE, read through the manual on H2, H4, L4, VSC, Diff Lock, etc. and can't find anything on turning VSC off in H2.

The only VSC off info pertains to H4 or L4 with the center differential locked.

The reason I ask, I got somewhat stuck in a parking spot on the street (we got snow for the first time), I couldn't get H4 to engage and needed to get out of the spot to engage H4.

Fortunately I was able to get out of the spot after some manuevering and engaged H4 by backing up a bit...

I really haven't needed the 4WD before this week and need to figure out how to get it working properly without moving.

Nope...you must lock center diff to disengage VSC. Only the 2008 models have the VSC OFF button.

"VSC is the one that cuts the power off. Can be very dangerous if pulling out into traffic when the roads are snow covered , if you give it to much gas and it senses slip it will shut power down so your tires only have enough power to keep you moving. Great idea , just needs refining."

To have the ability to disable VSC without locking the center differential.

Steven , yes that makes sense , but I under the impression he couldn't get it to work in 2wd Just wonder why not in 2H ? Maybe I'm mis-understanding his concern .

THAI , I still wish I had those switches , nothing has changed , would be a nice feature . The switch would be a blessing . If you feel you need the power to pull up my old posts for whatever reason , knock yourself out . Just here to learn and talk about TR4's myself , not prove anything else.

The VSC OFF button is only on 2008 models...the original poster's 4runner is 2007.

Maybe i misunderstood your earlier statement...didn't you ask why Toyota would even have a VSC OFF switch since you could turn it off by locking the center diff?? I am sure that i misunderstood your statement above. sorry.

My 08 has the VSC off button which also activates the LSD when depressed.

So I have to lock the center diff to shut of VSC, got it. Can I do in in H2 or does it need to be in H4 or L4? I also figured out how to get H4/ L4 engaged without moving the truck, a combination of shifting from D or R to N.

You cannot lock the center diff in H2 because you are in 2wd. Locking the center diff ties the front and rear axle together...and thus, is ONLY available in 4wd modes.

So, to answer you question again, you canNOT shut off VSC without locking the center diff. Is there a way to do it aftermarket?? Yes, see above links that i posted.

I was under the impression that VSC (Vehicle Skid Control) doesn't even kick in until 15MPH or something like that? The system that is keeping you from moving in the slippery stuff is TRAC, right? This is my understanding of the VSC/TRAC system.

Also, I have to note that Toyota's TRAC system works very well. It snowed quite a bit here recently and I was going up my driveway, which was covered in snow. I stopped halfway through and tried to get going again. I was in 2WD mode and going up an incline. Of course, the familiar orange light came up, the woodpecker sound of the TRAC kicking in, and I began to move very very slowly up. I mean very slowly. I got tired of it and deactivated VSC/TRAC with an aftermarket switch I installed. After doing so, I tried my best to get up the driveway, only to slide everywhere and even slid a bit backwards. I eventually just backed up to the road and got a running start (could've put it in 4WD, too), but this just goes to show you the system works pretty well.
