Tweeter install in the front doors

Hey guys. Thought I'd post some pics of the tweeter install I recently did on my 4th gen. I've seen quite a few pictures of the speaker installs, but not much on the tweets. The one's I have seen used wood cutouts to mount to.

So anyways, this is how I did it - you may or may not like how I did it and you are entitled to your opinion. I simply wanted to let others see other ways of installing the tweets.

I actually wound up using the OEM tweeters, and cut the magnet/voice coil off of the basket with a dremel. I then removed the rest of the speaker material so all I had left was the basket, which is part of the mount.

I decided to reuse my set of Kicker RS6 components from my previous vehicle, and found that the tweets fit nicely in the OEM tweeter baskets. I used a strong 2-part epoxy to secure the new tweeter housing to the OEM basket, and let it cure over night at room temp.

I think it turned out pretty good. This is definitely a great option for those of us lacking woodworking skills! I can do some things, but find working with metal & plastic MUCH easier

That looks really good. Most of my experience with car stereo installations comes from 70's and 80's vehicles that came with one speaker front and center on the dash. Stock car stereos have come a long way since then, but it still amazes me what the stock components look like compared to after market. Junky short lived surrounds, cardboard looking cone material, and for some reason, cloth or plastic over the speaker that does everything but improve sound quality. What's the logic of putting thick cloth over a tweeter? To keep the factory installers or stealer's mechanics from damaging them?

Nice job on the tweeter install! Very clean and intuitive. When I get around to it (ie, gets warmer than sub-freeze!), I'm going to work on the possibility of cramming a set of 3.5" coaxials in there. I had done this with the dash speaks on my 02 Grand Cherokee that had a very similar setup to the 4R (it was a 6x9 door mid-bass driver with 2-2.5" dash mid-tweets). Definitely made a huge difference in sound volume and quality.
