Tweets next to the woofers?

I guess they are really 'mid bass'. Anyway, I'm talking about the comps in the front door. I have CDT components that I mounted in the original speaker spots, with the tweeter higher on the door. According to the CDT, having the tweeter this far from the woofer is a terrible sin. Someone on this board was touting the greatness of putting both speakers in the 6x9 spot lower on the door, maybe atomic punk? I was just wondering if anyone had some experience with this and how it was working out. It just seems that the driver's tweeter would be playing right into my leg. Maybe it doesn't matter.

It won't really matter that much when it comes down to it, I am an audiophile and I prefer to seperate my tweeters from my woofers, but putting them together won't make much difference for a daily listener.

Definitely try to keep them together, maybe trying to aim the tweeter towards the listening positions, as you really don't want the separation gap in frequencies, which can cause a more harsh sound. I too am an audiophile who will be installing a little SQ system in the '97 limited I just picked up. I'll be using kick-panel enclosures for my 5.25 and tweet to keep them close, aimed for imaging and a good sound-stage, and a 6.5 mid bass in the door. In the end it's all a matter of what you like since your the one listening.

If you're spending only $500 total on a system, don't worry about where your tweeter is located, you won't notice a big difference either way. Conversely, if you're spending $5k on a system and want THE BEST SQ available, then location will matter. I don't know where the "optimum" location for the tweets is, but if you do decide to mount them down below with the woofers, be sure to angle them UP and towards the opposite seat.

BTW: I put my Infinity tweets in the stock location and love them there.
