Two questions before I do my brakes

After reading and researching pads it looks like I will order Wagner Thermoquiet pads for my T4R. I haven't done my own brakes in about 25 years.

First - Does anyone have a step by step instruction specifically for the T4R? Pics would be great.

Second - How much should it cost me to get my rotors turned and where should I go? I thought NAPA would be a good choice but I stopped there and they wanted $40 EACH. Is this nuts or is this the going rate these days?

Make sure you bleed it and Watchout for them brittle ABS lines.

Turning your rotors shouldn't be that much. It's about $10-20 in my area depending on shop. See if you have a CSK, Checker, Schucks or Kragen, around your area. CSK was charging ~$13 about six months ago.

Shouldn't have to bleed the system unless you get air in it.
Or maybe want to change the brake fluid as well.

just as safety precaution. Since he's already doing a break job, might as well kill 2 birds with one stone.

I did a write-up in the maintenance section somewhere.

I think one of the most important parts about this job is cleaning and lubing the slide pins. I lube-up the anti-rattle shins as these rust and disintegrate.

What do you loube them with?

A green thick grease that I pick up at the auto parts store. It is made specifically for brake jobs. I would never do a brake job without it.

I use Kauffman Tire to turn the rotors.. I think its $10 ea. and they do it while you wait.

you dont need lube, you don't need to bleed your fluid! bleeding your brakes is a waste of fluid, unless you are adding dirt when you put fluid in, you don't need to! Lube when you need to do a "lube job" you dont need it for breaks! especially because you dont want the pads to get anything on them or they will wear unevenly.

Just a suggestion.

Take a wheel off and look at the pad material. (in particular the front pads). If one is thinner than the other, you may have had a piston that froze. Skip the pad job and source out new calipers and parts before deciding to have the brakes done.

I use Kauffman for a lot of little stuff but they wanted a bit much for the brake job. I also wasn,t real sure about the pads they offered. Fact is they are only about 1 mile from my house - maybe I'll get them to turn the rotors but I hate for them to give me a hard time about doing my brakes myself...generally speaking, they are pretty good guys.

Yeah I dont let them do the brake job.. I just yank all 4 rotors and drive them over there.
