Well, just before the purchase of my "new to me" 2000 4Runner 2 weeks ago, I was surfing this site to get info on the truck I wanted....I found a beauty....a 2000 4WD 4Runner with only 60,000 miles on it (snow birds from IL, spent winters here in AZ).

The 1st pic is the day I brought it home.

The 2nd is after removing the running boards, mudflaps and fender trim.

The 3rd.....Oh the 3rd, was taken tonight after I was hit by a Dodge Ram that ran a red light (Just Fantastic).

So Monday the 20th I go get the estimate for the (of course...ladie's) insurance. I am going to my buddy who run's a bodyshop here in town.

My buildup questions is: Obviously I have an oppurtunity to make a few mods to the vehicle. What should I be looking at trying to upgrade or change on the vehicle as I go through this process. Just looking to see where you guys would start.

Your lucky (or unlucky) that the airbags did not go off because Insurance would have totaled it out.

As for as mods. Since insurance is paying for a front bumper, get you a Plate Bumper, and if they have to replace the hood, tell them that you want a sport hood. Pay the difference. Shouldn't be much more.

yes grab a schockworks (sp?) bumper and if you have enough money definitely a sport hood.

It may not look it, but thats going to be a fairly pricey estimate I imagine. Aside from the obvious (bumper, hood, fender, etc) I imagine there is damage to the core support and possible some to the right frame rail. Its all the little hidden stuff that gets ya. If it had more miles it would probably border a possible TL.

Anyway, since its your buddy running the shop he's probably going to hook it up on labor and parts so...

If it were mine I would:

-Outdoor Logic front bumper if you want to wait, otherwise ARB since there is no wait time.
- Sport hood
- Limited fender flares

Depending on whats leftover:

- Lift (OME front, LC's rear - 7 wrap?)
- Wheels (Limited 5 stars are cool, but whatever your into)
- Tires (285/75's)

I would work out what you can with the body shop. For example, have them write up a bumper and labor to install and cash out on that completely. Install yourself. If it includes an alignement and your planning to lift it, dont align it yet. Take the cash, lift it, then align it. Dont have the shop align it, lift it, then align it again.

Oh, and have fun! Thats a pretty good spot for a little love tap. Aside from the core support etc, its all pretty much bolt on. Unlike getting hit in the rear where they have to hang a quarter panel, seal it right, etc.. Just asking for problems down the road. Ask me how I know.

The estimate from the driver at fault's insurance was $4252.00. I'll keep you posted once I get it to my boy's bodyshop.

Well, finally got the check from Allstate for $4300.00. Dropped it off at the bodyshop last night. They are going to do the core support back and I will handle the grill, lights, front bumper etc. I am having the "sport" hood installed instead of the stock one. We had a huge hail storm out here in AZ so the shops are backed up. Probably be about 3-4 weeks. Later.

Ya sorry about the crash, but like the other guy said, your lucky now u can get a good lookin brushguard/bumper, and hopefully sport hood. Good luck with all this!!

Good luck with the mods! That is a PERFECT beginning to a great mod start: front end gone and lots of money to replace it with! I'm looking for a 1999-2000 with a smashed front end and 5Spd myself to buy something cheap and have lots of money left over for mods.

not to knock any other bumpers, but I am heading down to CBI to let them use my runner for making there Moab Bumper to fit our 3rd gen's

not sure dates, but hopefully will start over the next few weeks I will get the call to drive down to ID from Montana so they can create another good front bumper, cause there rear bumpers ROCK from what I have read.

For plate bumpers I think the Outdoor Logic bumper is pretty sick. They just did a group buy on them. Sounds like everyone was super happy with both the workmanship and the customer service.

where did you get that sport hood?

My buddy at the bodyshop got it from Toyota. Same price as the original hood except for the grill and insert. I love it.

All of the bolt on stuff is done. Ordered the Shrockworks bumper last week so it will be a bit before I get any new pics. Later all.

Well, finally done with all of the repairs from the accident including the Shrockworks front bumper.

I'm thinking of doing the snorkel next, any ideas of what brand to go with?
