But regardless, I also agree politicians don’t really know the details behind weapon systems, which might be why the loop holes you talk about exist. I also think those loop holes exist because of the gun lobby and probably a little bit of compromise on both sides when the legislation went through.

If it were up to me, I’d ban high capacity magazines and crush gun owners who’s kids got their weapons and shot up whoever.

I get reloading an AR style weapon takes but a second if you practice. But coming to the fight with 6 30rd magazines is not crazy. But having 18 10rd magazines on your body is.

And lastly, being a responsible gun owner means you’re responsible for securing it and making sure it’s only used for responsible reasons.

Regardless whether its reasonable legislation, I still feel it will be ineffective and so there will continue to be another push to get the next thing banned. I really think the media and anti-gunners are incorrect in their diagnosis that guns are the problem and unfortunatley the 2A supporters now have to defend the constitution. None of this would be talked about if it wasnt for these mass shootings.

I don't want to take all tools away just some. And if the mere suggestion of a gun works then do you don't need an AR to defend yourself. Own a pistol and tell them(attacker/robber etc) you've got one. Sounds like you would be set especially considering the vast majority of americans go their entire lives without owning one and much less needing to use one in a defensive situation.

If you pull 1 gun the person will use another type, the last shooting was a shotgun owned legally. You need security now, the world has changed and so have the rules. So we must adapt to the new way of life. Don’t think your politicians will accomplish much, history has shown us that.

Perhaps you are under thinking about this topic?

Which I believe is the biggest reason people are calling for their rights to be removed in the first place.

They just aren't thinking clearly due to a highly emotional topic that involves protecting children and they have feckless politicians and an out of control biased agenda driven media leading the charge for removing and limiting the rights of the citizenry in the guise of "safety" and doing "something".

Never have I ever, once in my life thought- "well jeez I should stop thinking, I'm putting too much thought into this" about any topic, especially one as important as this.

What I want to see is some baseline universal regulations that are uniform across all states. With the exception of maybe Alaska.

Realistically:

- A national accessible background system.
- Background checks on all transactions including private. They can be done at participating gun shops or perhaps at your local police station.
- A national list of things that will make you unable to own a firearm or perhaps make you go through more steps in order to get one.

Perhaps Fantasy:

- A tiered gun ownership tree. Meaning you sort of earn your firearms through ownership and responsibility. Could be a combination of age and experience. Perhaps start with owning a hunting rifle. And then as you progress the tree, you are able to acquire a broader range of weapons. Could be a grandfathered sort of tree. Such as myself growing up in a city around no guns, I would need to wait until 21 or something to buy a rifle. But someone who has grown up around someone who is fully licenses and has their sponsorship, they could attain one earlier at 18.

Background checks are only as good as the reporting agencies. Parkland shooter would not have passed one if all of his run ins with the law would have been properly reported. Church shooter in Texas was dishonorably discharged from the Navy(I think), so he wouldn't have passed one if the reporting agency would have, you guessed it, reported it. Sante Fe the gun was stolen, so no background check there.

As to your fantasy, what other rights are we going to "give" based on a tiered system? Voting? Speech? Religion?
