Type 3 6 disc JBL Synthesis NO RDS?

What the.... I've got a Limited with the JBL 6 disc/10 speaker system and the thing doesn't have RDS! Cripes, I didn't think they even made a non-RDS radio and I sure as heck didn't expect to find one in a Limited!

Anyone have any info on this, hopefully I'm wrong, but as best I can tell this HU is junk.

Not sure what a Type 3 is but, I have 6 disc jbl unit out of a 2005 and it has RDS. I believe the 2003 units had RDS as well.

The Type 3 radio looks like the one in the Toyota viewer located here:

Looks like the 06 models dropped RDS since my truck is a limited with the 10 speaker/6 disc JBL Synthesis system in it.

Hey, as luck would have it another member just posted pics of the Type 3 radio. This is what the radio looks like and as that thread confirms, no RDS. What a freakin' joke.

Anyhow ---- Yeah --- when I replaced by 05 unit with an 06 unit, I was very disappointed to find out that the newer units no longer had the RDS or TRAF functions. I used the RDS quite frequently when I was traveling. It is something I do infact miss about my old headunit.

I hoped you wouldn't mind. I couldn't find a picture anywhere. Sucks that there is no RDS, makes me wanna swap the NAV in if I could find an 06 unit. I mean really, how cheap can Toyota be? It a piece of silicon that could cost more than a few pennies to include. It makes even less sense since the CD supports text and the XM radio module will enable text display as well.

Anyone got an inside track on an 06 nav unit? Wonder what's required to swap it out? New trim pieces? Maybe I'll stop by the dealer and see what an 06 with Nav looks like.

Can someone with a 06 with factory NAV post some close-up photos of the Nav unit in the dash. I'm wondering how the trim differs from the picture posted above.

2005 6 disc JBL

I think it is a good trade off. The 06 unit can read mp3/wma, can accomodate Satellite radio (I think), and is ready for an auxilliary input with the proper cables. Also it got rid of the tape player, I mean who buys tapes anymore!

No doubt it's better than the 05 unit, it does support sat radio and has the aux input as you mentioned.

Does anyone know if the Sirius satelite toyota tuner is out yet to plug into the 06 JBL non nav HU ?

cool, thanks I think I will wait a little while until people get them and install them. Hopefully everything will work right.

I think that Toyota really dropped the ball on this one. All of the American car companies have been offering sat. radio for years, and blue tooth for using your cell hand free.

However, Toyota made an AWESOME 4runner so I can't complain !
