So, my 4WD doesnt work.
The problem: Severe binding when engaged in 4WD (in dirt, on pavement, in mud, ETC).
What it's not: CV Axles, Joints (Replaced). Transfer Case. Gear Ratios (swapped a siezed 93 manual rear end with a 90 auto. both are 4.56.) Steering linkage/alignment (all replaced, aligned).
What might pose a problem: The 90 rear end only has 2 pinon gears. The 93 had 4. I dont see how it could really be a problem, but 4WD failed awhile after the swap.
The binding noise is definatly coming from the front end of the vehicle. Also, the bind is much MUCH more severe in turns. Driving straight it still does it, but it still rolls just using torque. In turns, the bind will stall the engine using torque only. I have stopped the truck in a turn right on the bind, and while i was turning left, the front right side was significantly lower than the left. I had a friend look underneath while i was truning and binding, and everytime it binds, the front driveshaft stops, turns back then rolls forward again. I read on here that you can switch around the vaccum lines for A.D.D. diffs, and when you do, it locks the front axle into 4WD without the transfer case being in 4WD. I did this, and the bind still occured. This eliminates the transfer case. Someone told be busted CV axles or joints would cause this. I replaced both sides, and it still binds. Now I'm praying that its not the front diff or A.D.D. system, but that seems to be the only thing left that will cause this. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
