Uhm. I think I've been scammed.

Well... Don't know how else to put it...

I was looking for a stock roof rack for my T4R here - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/want-buy-trade/116103-wtb-3rd-gen-roof-rack-rails.html

Toyxterra responded that he has one - we agreed on the price ($100 shipped to Blaine, WA). I promptly paypal'ed the money (2 weeks ago) and that's when problems started.

1st he was looking for the mounting hardware, couple days later (last Monday) he said he's shipping it. When I inquired about tracking number I got response (last Thursday) that he has to leave town on urgent business (and be back Friday or Saturday and will ship it to me asap). I've sent him a couple of PMs since then - no response. Latest posts on the forum from him are on Monday.

What can I do?

I think he's probably just being lazy on sending it out. Did you ask for your money back yet?

yeah, a couple of days ago - no response. I'm a patient person - but 2 weeks from sending the money is a bit of an overkill. Never happened to me before - that's why I'm feeling kind of :bash:

Never pay using the gift option. How do you file a report when you claimed it was a gift in payment? Im a glass half empty kind of guy. So that is always what comes to mind when someone tells me to send it as a gift.

FYI paypal has changed the gift rule. The fee goes to the sender now. You probably got hit with the fee too

I hope he comes thru for you but you may be out $100

for once we agree, I wouldn't use the gift option unless you really are willing to give that amount of money away.

I wasn't aware that paypal changed the policy though. I've had several people pay me for different things that way. Guess paypal finally caught on.

Just hang tight, if he doesn't send it.... CALL pay pal and they will give you the money back, explain no tracking # was given or any proof the item was shipped of existed

lesson learned the hard way I guess. I'm still kind of hoping that it will play out all right in the end.

I've tracked him down a bit - he's registered on all major forums (without any major activity though) and also seems to be involved in http://www.xtor4x4.com website.

I can always warn others not to deal with such unreliable individual. :rockthrow:

I always just add the fee to the total amount when I use paypal to avoid using the gift option. Paypal specifically says not us the gift option for purchases because they don't guarantee it. You can't expect Paypal to risk their money to guarantee yours if you aren't giving them their cut of the pie.

I will have to watch if the fee goes to the sender now. That would certainly make a bit more sense to me.

Also, if the seller even refuses to accept it as a non-gift when you are paying the fee, then it is definitely a scam.

oh right on time..i opened a thread about wanting a rear tire carrier and he latched onto the thread...says he can sell it to me $350 shipped..gave me a link to his site toxtra or something...well i hvnt paid...n going by this...i aint paying.

Since you sent it as a gift, you're probably **** out of luck, BUT I would call Paypal anyways. No harm in trying. If they say they can't do anything about it, just threaten to close your Paypal account and take your business elsewhere. My GF did that when she got charged late fees on her credit card, and they just erased the late fees. Kind of ****ty, but it worked.
