Potential T4R WTB Scam?

Hey, I am usually good about sniffing out potential scams and buy a lot of parts online. Unfortunately I think I might have fallen for one on this forum.

I posted a WTB for a rear bumper for my 1st gen 4runner. A forum member named Arconslpet sent me a PM saying he had a friend with one for sale in CA. (I just noticed they have 0 posts - a red flag).

I emailed the friend, Kevin Patterson in CA, and Kevin said yes he has one, confirmed the specs, and I sent him $200 via Wal-mart (he didn't trust PayPal for some reason - another red flag).

He has been communicating via email daily about shipping and tracking, but I didn't get any proof that the shipment actually went out and the tracking number didn't work. I'm still hopeful it's real, but starting to think it isn't.

So, unfortunately I might have been too trusting of forum PMs.

Moderator, I suggest you look into Arconslpet from Austin, TX. If this is a scam, I suggest you ban them.

Members, if this was a scam, be wary and don't fall for it like I did.

no paypal = NO deal.

Hope you get your money back or the product arrives.

Thanks. The Walmart-2-Walmart thing seemed legit - he literally presented his Drivers License when he picked up the money, so they have his full contact information file and he was at the counter on video at 10:28am in 6/18.

I still hope it's legit, but really doubt it is at this point. Lesson learned. Hopefully this post helps someone else avoid a scam if it is.

There are plenty of Paypal scams out there, but Paypal buyer protection gives me much more peace of mind.

I think there is zero chance that Walmart would share that drivers license information with you if this turns out to be a scam.

Moderators / Admins,
I just got a new PM that is exactly the same as the scam one from before.

Admin, please look into elvisw999 - 0 posts and scam like PMs. Exact text below:

"Email, [email protected]. He has one for sale."

I had asked about a number of parts, so I know this is a scam sine they only referenced "one" part and no specific parts.

Don't suppose you have any more information on the guy in California do you? Name, address, phone number, city? Lots of us out here.

It probably doesn't help that for whatever reason t4r.org is not secure if you look at the address bar
admin why isn't the site secure??
Charles4x4 this sort of thread should be posted in site feedback

I doubt any of it is real... But I do have a name, email address, and home address. Supposedly in Compton, CA. PM me if you really want any of it - don't want to get you in a sticky situation though.

The police said it wasn't big enough for them to spend time on it.

Great - Admin/Moderator, please move to Site Feedback. I didn't know where it belonged.

Hahah, yeah I'm far too white to be knocking on doors in Compton looking for parts. If it was anywhere else I'd gladly take a drive through.

A google search shows this is across multiple forums..

The account was made using the offenders email and everything.

Banned both accounts...

Never make payments without the protection of paypal...

Arconslpet got me too. Said his buddy in CA had a part I needed. Sent money through Moneygram. Gave me a tracking number. Tracking said it was delivered on June 11, but I assumed that was at the Canadian border. Waited a few weeks and no part. Suspect I got ripped off. $168 CAD I won't get back.

Not good! You aren't alone - as a wise person said above. No Paypal, No Payment.

If they tell you to email off the site rather them pm's i never email. That throws a huge red flag for me. I only use paypal too. Sorry, but you got burnt. Hopefully karma gets them soon enough.
