Ultimate CB setup for 4th gens

I have tried several different setups (all of which can be searched for) but I have now completed what I think is the best setup for our trucks.

Remote connector box is a bout the size of a cigarette box

The box is hidden under the shifter cover which is removed easily with your fingers pulling upwards.

Here the cb mic cable is connected to the box via a spare button plug

When not in use

The mic has all your controls on it, as opposed to other cbs which have the controls on a large box

The coaxial runs under the centre console rearwards, under the rear carpet to the rear seats then continuing under the carpet to the drivers side rear door sill. The cable then travels behind the plastic cladding to the rear cargo space where it travels behind the plastic cladding to a connector

I now use a Wilson 5000 magnetic base antenna with a 5ft stainless whip

I used a variety of connectors purchased from Radio Shack.

In the main I required one female/female connector (as shown above) to mount in the rear cargo area. This connector replaces a plug for tieing down luggage. Also need two PL259 UHF Type Connectors female/male for the coaxial cable ends and two right angle connectors that screw into the female/female connector to make the coaxial travel path easy.

Naturally you should also tune the antenna with a SWR meter

I used a Pep Boys Type R Racing cell phone holder that clips onto the air vents to contruct a holder for the mic.

A few screws and a bit of cutting here and there...and presto...

For wiring, its all very easy.

I hardwired the positive (red) wire directly to the battery and earthed the negative (black) to a screw under the shifter console.

The positive wire required running extra length forward from the shifter console to the plastic cover for the steering column and thru and exisitng wire loom thru the firewall (above brake pedal) to the battery. Make sure to have a fuse inline on the read wire.
