Ultimate Lift Installed!!

Just had my Toytec Ultimate Lift installed today. It took my uncle and I around 6 hours to do the installation (well, he actually did most of the work...I just passed the tools lol :p) Since we ran out of time today we did not install the diff drop or get an alignment. Originally, once installed, I wanted to lower the 5100's a bit, to achieve a final 2 inch lift with the new coilovers. However, we couldn't lower it...we followed the instructions but it still didn't go down any

Anyway, the ride is wayy better IMO. No more body roll around turns and the front doesn't "dive down" when I hit the brakes. The coils are a bit stiff, but I did want a truck-like ride.

Don't know if I'll end up installing the diff drop or not. Gonna be busy for the next several weeks...do you guys think that it NEEDS the drop?

Height Measurements

Stock:

Front Passenger: 20'' (fender to center of hub), 34.6'' (fender to ground)
Front Driver: 20'', 34.6''
Rear Pass: 20.5'', 35.5''
Rear Driver: 20 1/4'', 35 1/8''

Ultimate Lift Installed:

Front Pass: 22 3/4'', 37 1/4''
Front Driver: 22 1/2'', 36 7/8''
Rear Pass: 23 1/2'', 38
Rear Driver: 23'', 37 1/2''

The measurements came out kinda weird (I double checked for accuracy) but I guess it just needs time to settle..

Looks great!

Nice backdrop also, I grew up in Hilo then moved to Oahu. Man now I'm hungry for a plate lunch. :D

What is the total hieght of the runner including rack??... I have underground parking and I would LOVE to do that lift this spring!!!

Hells yeah!!! Big Island pride! Looks like you've been doing quite a few mods lately. Looking good. :bigok:

Looks good. You will like the setup.

The Diff Drop Debate!

I did the diff drop. Do I NEED the drop? Probably not. I think it is cheap/easy insurance. It should prolong CV life.

I dropped my skidplate and did an oil change. I didn't remove my diff drop and measure but as others have said you aren't dropping the whole diff, just rotating it. The rear, driveshaft side, mount is 6" from the axle centerline. The front, where the drops go in, is 7" from the axle centerline. There for when you drop the front 1" the actual axle centerline only drops .462" (~15/32") Just under 1/2". It's hard to tell what strain it takes off the CVs when wheeling and you have full droop.

Is it worth it? That is up to you. I'm leaving mine in.

:iagree:I took my front's up to 3.5" so I definitely needed the diff drop. It will prolong life of the CVs and only takes a few minutes.

To drop the coilover simply break the two lock nuts loose with the spanner wrenches. Thread the bottom one down an inch (to your desired 2" total) then use the spanner to spin the other nut down. The spring will most likely turn with it. When the lock nuts meet, lock them together again by tightening them together.

Why do you want to lower it?

Thats the same lift I want to install on my Runner. But I'll be going with the 891's I plan on adding a Tire Carrier in the rear with slots for fuel and water.

Glad to hear there's a noticeable improvement in that front end dive. I'm looking at an OME lift right now along with new shocks to fix that same problem. :)

As far as adjusting the CO height. It can be a pain in the butt. It will take time to get it dialed in completely. Here is something most people don't think about. Once you make an adjustment on the CO you can't just take a measurement as soon as you lower off the jack. There is still friction between floor and tire surface possibly not allowing it to lower. Drive around the block and hit a few bumps then pull back in and measure. If necessary repeat steps. At a bare minimum you need to roll the vehicle forward and back to allow the tires to settle at actual ride height.

As with any CO that you buy. You will have to adjust them a few times before you get the right height. Accept it.

I mounted mine, drove around and readjusted them. I have readjusted them 4 or 5 times. Remember that, roughly, it is a 1/4" at the shock gives you ~1/2" at the wheel. (shock is mounted inboard) I can, and have, adjusted mine without pulling the tires.

How to: Adjusting Coilovers without removing the tires

*Spray lube is your friend.
*Lift the front of the vehicle with a floor jack, unloads the coil
*Turn the wheel hard to the left, this will allow access to the drivers side CO
*Measure the threads and figure how much you need to adjust
*With gloves on, crank on the adjuster, you will only have one hole of rotation with each crank
*Turn the wheels to the right and repeat on the passenger side
*drive around to get the suspension to settle.
*Repeat the process if needed to achieve the desired height.
*Make a note in your owners manual of the heights. This way, if they settle, you can adjust to get back to this height. This could help keep the alignment set. (measure from the hub center to the wheel well lip)

My dad has my runner for the week..I'll get the measurements for you when he gets back. It fits fine with plenty of extra clearance in my garage though (my garage is pretty low)

Hmmm yeah it definitely wouldn't hurt to put the diff drop in...I think I'll put it eventually, when I'm on break again.
