Ummmmm.. WTF?

So, as those of you that were there, or that have been paying attention to the "NC meet and greet" thread, I went swimming yesterday. I kow, I know, not the brightest idea, but hey, I did it, its over.

Here's the thing that's confusing the ever living sh*t out of me:

The truck starts on its own. Yes. The. Truck. Starts. On. Its. Own.

I left Singtoe's house yesterday after blowing out the ECU, and all was fine until I got to about exit 341. Then, fit hit the shan. I got 6 codes, two for the MAF, two for my speedo(because of the regear), one for the CPS, and the other was becasue it was running rich. I pulled the negative cable, let if sit for a few minutes, cleaned the MAF off, yadda yadda, and then only two codes came back. The MAF and the speedo.

This is where I'm confused as hell. I understand that the MAF controls the AFR and all that jazz, so stalling when stopped is a pretty safe bet. Why, when it stalls, does it start again? And I mean START. If I'm under the hood, the truck stalls, the starter will start the truck. At first I thought it was just limited to when the truck was on, but nope. Got to the barracks, parked it, shut it off, pulled the key out, went in to get some laundry started, showered, came back out to my laundry into the dryer and THE TRUCK WAS SMOKING. The damn starter was trying to start the damn thing. I burned the **** out of my self trying to get the battery terminal off, finally did, and it stopped.

I'm going to pull the starter today, clean it up, Clean everything out of the truck, the whole nine, I just want to make sure that I'm not nuking this situation.

Anyone have any experience with this, please chime in. If not, I'll update this when I figure out WTF is going on.

Your starter is shot. My old truck did that to me once. It was the middle of winter and I was really busy, so I just took it to a local shop and had them replace the starter with a reman Toyota unit. You could possibly fix it by replacing the contacts.

Until you get it fixed, be ready to pull that negative battery cable quick.

Well great. I'm gonna try to clean it up, so that way I might be able to save what I can. I guess we'll see what happens...

Tell me about it.... I was under the hood when it happened the first time. Scared the ever living piss out of me. Then, it did it again when I was under the truck on my back.

30 min of fun for a life of misery, sounds like having kids right! J/K, I love my kids.
Anyways, I have a spare MAF out of a 96-98. If it'll fit yours I'll make you a deal Doc.

I bet that you have some mud in your starter. It was submerged in mud.

Take it down, break it a part and clean it lube it and re install.

Don't forget to wash out your relay box under the dash and the one by the battery.

Yea and at the absolute worst you have you go get a reman unit at the Autoparts house.

Is the alternator still working?

Hahahaha! I wouldn't trade my Goober for anything. His mother, she can fall 6 feet under, but him, nothing would keep me from him.

I'll look at the part number on the MAF during lunch and let you know what it is. Thank You!!!

Planned on doing that in the parking lot today. Also, depating on pulling the carpet out and letting it dry, or if I should just RhinoLine the thing. The only problem with the RhinoLine, would be the noise. Not too fond of that....

Does anyone make a rubber mat type replacement for our rigs? That would be awesome to have.....

This is the vinyl flooring I was going to get a year ago, before I bought the new 4runner

Shared Top Border

That price will be for the whole interior of the car front to back, save some money by just doing the front
