undercarriage cleaning

Have any of you ever cleaned the underside of your Runner? I laid down in the garage floor last night and cleaned the drive shaft, trans and oil pan and as much of the underside of the flooring as I could reach. I wonder if I sprayed some rubber coating on it if it would dampen the noise.

What's your thoughts?

I clean the undercarriage whenever I'm under there for something else. I never try to tackle the whole thing at once though; I just clean the area I'm working near. I started using fluid film recently and like it so far. I'm waiting to see how well it does in the winter. The rubber undercoating is good for floor pans and wheel wells but you would need to keep it away from anything mechanical and anything that builds up heat. I just put some fresh undercoating on my wheel wells this spring and it looks much cleaner now

I am thinking too of putting some undercoating on my wheel welds and possibly the underside of where my running boards should be.

Any suggestions on specific product to use for this? I've seen rubberize undercoat rattle cans. I'm assuming theres not that much of a difference between brands. What do you think?

I never thought there was much of a difference either. I used the Advance Auto brand and it did the job just fine.

@ shoke. i was actually thinking about getting some line-x and putting it on that piece just above the running boards.

That might not turn out half bad. I did the spray on bed-liner on my bumper and turned out pretty good.

The only downside I can think of by spraying where the running boards mount is the texture of the spray on liner. The one I used has a fine grit to it, almost like grip tape I would say. So dirt/dust sticks to it pretty well. Its not a big deal to clean off of the bumper. Being near the ground might will probably collect more than the bumper.

A thicker maybe roll on liner would probably clear that up though.

yeah, i was looking at a roll on application at pep boys for something like 60 bucks the other day. i might just give it a shot and if it looks like crap then i will sand it off and take the pieces to line-x here in long beach. not sure what they would charge me but it might look better. who knows till its done right?
