That is not bad at all on the rust. Mine is probably 100x worse and I wired it and coated it. Hoping it last another 5 years.

All great pieces of advice! Just to reiterate for future posters... I live in Texas and am looking at a 4R for sale in Pennsylvania. The CARFAX shows that it lived a bit of its earlier life in CA, but then moved to PA, where I imagine a good bit of the rust came from
If you like and depending where in PA it is id be happy to do a drive by even though I am in VA. I have no interest as I have one already so I wont take it unless someone is closer they might be able to view it for you if the dealer didnt send and better clearer pics for you.

Would that be an unrealistic/unusual request to find and call a local mechanic to go and check it out? Never thought about it, but it doesn't seem too strange?

Yeah sorry wrong direction, was heading toward York/Lancaster area this weekend. Or could ask another forum member to do a drive by and put eyes on it if they can. Or have shop send better pics, last shop did that for car that hailed from PA showed really poor shape of frame.
If shop is willing you can arrange a PPI to be performed just be very specific on what you want inspected

If that's your budget, get one from a non-salt state. There are plenty out here in CA for that price...

Agree with this if it worked for you. Thats a good budget. Understand if it didnt. I looked for a while b4 finding this one. I drive them into the ground though so I wanted/needed the body to outlast the mechanics. I found some nice ones (photos) in Phoenix and that is where I was heading the next week before I found this one.
Yea I've been searching nationwide.. maybe my expectations are too unrealistic? Again this is my first T4R, so I'm not sure what kind of standards I should be expecting..
The one I'm currently looking at only has 120k miles, which I haven't found elsewhere.

Ignore mileage. Maintenance history/quality is much more important. It will also leave money in the budget for all the parts that really should be replaced, regardless of mileage at this point (radiator, ball joints, etc.).
I trust my 285k mile 4Runner more than most new cars...

Great advise! I'm definitely worried about a high mileage vehicle, though I totally know that T4Rs are super reliable!
