Corrosion Free is (according to a rigorous test evaluated by the Canadian military) the best rust proofing and prevention system. Go to their site and read the document. Also comes in buckets to spray with a spray gun and is starting to expand to local garages around the us
It soaks into the rust and completely stops any further corrosion, yes. You can actually see it reacting with rust by bubbling and foaming when it makes contact.

be careful with what you put on there. Lots of oils will react with rubber and plastics. Fluid film is relatively safe, but still be cautious. While it says it is lanolin based, there is also a note about it containing petroleum distillates. Proper, careful application is key.
My initial undercoating (krown) warped my OEM fender flares VERY badly. They pulled away from the body. The 'L' shaped profile was no longer L shaped. I taped and re-taped them with 3M VHB tape, but in the end they were too warped to do anything with. I wound up putting bushwacker fender flares on, because it was cheaper than replacing the OEM flares with new paint. hindsight, I wish I had just replaced the OEM fender flares.
I use fluid film for touchups in the fall and I clean everything up with small amounts of rust paint in the spring. Continuous maintenance can keep the undercarriage rust-free. Don't go apeshit with oil in one large application, or you're going to get acquainted with all the door seals and rubber grommets under your vehicle that you never wanted to know about.
I visit the wash bays very often in the wintertime. The fluid film doesn't wash away easily. Get down there and spray that salt away as often as you can.

plastics and oil do not mix! The Krown guy did a proper application on the fenders (this is where body rust is going to start) - but in the end, I wound up screwing around with these MF fender flares for months on end before I got the bushwackers. Learn from my mistake.

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear and see that. I can’t imagine how much it would be for the oem painted fender flares. I had the dealer undercoat and rustproof my 4Runner before I picked it up. It was brand new. I heard mixed reviews about having this done, but they offered a lifetime warranty with it. I’m sure there’s some fine print when it comes to “lifetime” warranty!

I’ve never used it, but read about Eastwood Internal Frame Rust Encapsulator. I guess it comes with a tube that you attach to the can and spray it inside your frame. It comes in black or green. It sounds like it might help you out, but I have no experience with it.

Has anyone ever used corroseal and then frame paint to attack a frame that's already starting to rust? Everything i've read about it seems to be good.

100% rust free option #1 move the flip out of the mid west.
99.9% option #2 park it over winter and buy a beater with a heater.
***% option #3 (best option) keep it clean after each storm and eventually trade it to some shmuck living in the south who don’t know any better.

How much do you need for one treatment of the 4R? I saw the 11.75 oz cans from Lowes, AutoZones, etc. Do you use these cans or the larger gallon cans?

Youre welcome! I use the cans for touch ups, but the product is a bit thinner this way. For your first and yearly applications go to a professional Fluid Film applicator shop. Shouldn't cost more than $100 first application and much less for yearly touchups, which is well worth it. The product they use is much thicker and they can saturate the entire vehicle inside and out. Just do a search in your area or call Fluid Film directly. Never had a problem with it affecting plastics or rubber so just apply and enjoy a rust free 4Runner.

DO NOT use a rubber based product !!...I use a product called POR 15 and it's basically a paint...I did my 2016 this past summer...EXCELLENT product !!...took basically the whole day between all 3 product applications...you buy the cleaner, the metal prep, and the paint. A ***** if you get that stuff on you and it dries...NOTHING will remove it so you just wait a few weeks until it sluffs off your skin

You don’t need paint or anything fancy. I’ve used fluid film via spray cans every fall. I spray inside the whole frame using the frame holes and outside the frame. I use a total of 6 cans and I don’t have any rust. It doesn’t get washed off like some people said and it’s non-toxic. Please don’t use anything toxic as we only have one planet.
i think I can manage 6 cans. I also have the air compressor etc so I might go that way for the initial treatment. Do you remove the skid plates when you spray?

If you already have rust and want to stop it, POR15 is the best.
If you don’t have rust and want to prevent it, use Fluid Film.
