Uneven Brake Pad Wear

Hi all,

I searched & didn't find anything, so I'm sorry if this is a repost. Please feel free to berate me and direct me to a relevant thread if so.

I went in to replace my pads & rotors, and I noticed that the outer pad was worn much more than the inner. Is there a common issue that could cause this? I figured that because it's filthy, that the outer pad may just be catching on the pin and not disengaging, causing more wear. Please share your thoughts.

My best guess is that the outer pistons are sticking a bit and not retracting as they should, it's a common issue on these calipers.

This is one reason I always rebuild or replace calipers on every brake job, every vehicle.
I will not do a "pad slap"

Just bought a set of front calipers from my local parts store with a warranty for this exact reason.

I'm much the same, but I also do a rotor swap, get the old ones turned if they still have enough metal left on them for the next time I need to redo the brakes.

uneven pad wear

On a single piston caliper more wear on the inside is usually a sticking caliper; T4r is the first four piston caliper I've had, but I'd agree with the other posters that it's likely the caliper. I just replaced mine because it has 110k miles and I doubt they were ever changed. I change rotors every brake job and calipers every other. It helps to change the brake fluid every two years as well.
