Uneven rotor wear

So what am I looking at here? Bought with 176,000 miles. I have had zero issues in 6 months. Just for fun I replaced the front breake pads. All 4 pistons went in smooth as smooth can be. When sanding the rotor surface, I noticed that the disk plates are not the same thickness! Ive never seen this before. The pads had even wear inboard and outboard on this caliper, so i don't have frozen pistons.

Are these asymetrical out of the box new? They are from the dealer, toyota disks and pads, I have the receipt for the last brake job.


Normal? Anyone else seen this?

That would've have to be a significant amount of metal taken out to see a noticeable difference.


I've seen aftermarket rotors like that. Not sure why. The outside plate isn't going to have more clamping for applied and I can't imagine that the heat difference between plates would be enough to warrant an extra millimeter or two on the outside, but I'm sure its possible. For whatever reason, maybe Toyota felt the inboard side needed a little more thickness.

With a fixed caliper, this really makes no sense. Maybe Toyota felt that the inboard needed more thickness because the outboard gets beter cooling air though the openings in the wheels, and the inboard is on the engine side??
No sign of the outboard side being turned - no lip or step next to the hat.

Weird.

I think I have the same issue. I am not sure why but at that time I found the inner and out brake pads have different wear as well. caliper is rusty but still working fine...
our 4runners do have some brake problem. I am thinking to replace the whole, rotor, caliper, etc...

whens the last time you had your brake flushed? atleast put some new fluid through out the whole truck, starting the bleeding at the left rear then right rear then right front and left front.
