Uniball Stock UCA

So the other day I replaced my stock UCA's since the bushing were worn pretty badly and I shaved them before I got 1.25" wheel spacers to eliminate the tire rub on the UCA's. Since I have the old ones just sitting on the work bench I was going to replace the bushings on them so I can just swap the UCA when my current bushings wear out. I had the idea to cut & weld in uniballs into the stock UCA to make them stronger and correct the alignment issues that stock arms have when lifted. Every time I tried searching to see if someone has already tried this method I just see aftermarket uniball control arms. I can't justify spending over $500 for new control arms when I can make my stock ones into basically the same thing for about $200 after the Uniballs and new bushings. If you have tried this or know who has, please share the link. I'm not sure if I will actually end up doing this or not but it seemed like a good idea and a fun weekend project. The biggest concern would be eliminating the UBJ like the other kits have. I guess I need to think of a way to connect it to the spindle safely. Let's see if we can come up with any good ideas for this.

If you used poly bushings you will never need to replace them again.

I heard the poly bushings start to squeak pretty quickly. I was thinking about that though. I was able to replace the arms for about $40 a piece so I felt I was already getting a good deal. I'll have to look more into the poly bushings for next time

You need to grease the hell out of them with waterproof grease prior to install. I have ran poly for many years on different vehicles with zero squeaks. If it does make noise they just need greased up, not replaced.

Good to know. I never put much thought into the poly bushings because I heard about the squeak. I guess I should have at least done a quick search haha

I shaved the stock arms, and replaced the bushings with new OEM bushings. I did think about cutting out UBJ slug, and replacing it with a uni-ball. I ended up not going that route though, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. You'd need to account for the offset of the uni-ball first. Would be best to build a jig so you can drill the slug out with a hole saw. Of course putting this into a mill would be ideal, and preferred over a drill press. You can buy the ball joint adapter from All Pro to eliminate the UBJ.

I wish I had a mill available but all I have is a drill press. I was thinking the same thing on the hole saw and jig. Good idea on the BJ adapter from all pro, that would be super easy and relatively cheap. I would just need to figure out exactly how to position the uniball to get the correct alignment. Would it be the same location as the stock ball joint just pulled back a few MM?
