unintended acceleration via floormat

OT story:
This can happen with any vehicle. Back when I was in driver's ed (1989), our meeting point was at our high school. One friend was in the morning group and his 80 year old grandma would pick him up everyday. One day she was in the parking lot doing high speed donuts with the tires squealing and smoking. I thought she was having some major winter life crisis and showing off. lol.
Turns out her floor mat was caught and pushing down the gas pedal. She finally got it dislodged and stopped the car (I believe it was a Pontiac Grand Prix).
Thankfully, nobody got hurt. There were lots of vehicles and people were around. It was extra funny because in driver's ed, everything is so "by the book" and anal retentive and here this kid's grandma was recklessly driving in front of all of us. I guess maybe you had to be there.

My wife and I discussed that last night. In Dec, my son turns 16 and will be driving the 4Runner to school, so wife is very concerned. I think the snipped corner of the mat will suffice. I did discuss with my teenager what to do if he encounters the issue.

Why not get the recall done (gas pedal clipped)? I had it done and didn't know they were clipping the pedal until a few days later when a coworker had it done and told me that they clip your pedal, I went and checked and sure enough it was clipped shorter. For days i never noticed anything different when driving.
