I've had the front end up in the air many times for lots of reasons... both wheels should spin freely, and if they don't something is binding.
So it sounds like you removed the caliper and rotor, so we can eliminate the possibility of it being a seized caliper. I don't think the worn UBJ should have any real effect on the rotation of the half-shaft. Steering and handling may be suffering though. I'm still thinking the CV is binding internally, or as someone else posted a bearing inside the diff is failing.
Quick update. Replaced all 4 balljoints this weekend, one with slop & the others as prevention. With the front end jacked up I noted two important things with the binding issue.
1. Binding goes away when hub nut is off & increases as torque is applied.
2. Binding is worst at full droop. With control arm jacked up it decreases significantly.
sonerick, I think you called it with the CV joint. I'll be replacing that next.
