Unusual problems . . .

First things first Im a new member but long time lurker. I seek the knowledge and wisdom of fellow members.

My rig. 1987 4Runner 5speed 4x4.

1) The clutch fluid for some reason is draining and then it makes it increasingly difficult to shift.

2) Im hearing a water/liquid rushing sound when I start it up and apply a little gas. Just happens when I start it up and begin accelerating. Goes away pretty quickly

3) When I drive it cold I give it gas and the truck doesnt respond. I give it gas and it wont accelerate. Its also short lived. Once the truck is warm it drives great.

I have put in a new radiator, engine, transmission, clutch, exhaust, and master and slave cylinder.

Any and all insight is very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

1) The fluid path for the clutch system is pretty short. Goes from the master up and over the engine then down to the slave on the side of the tranny. Should be able to spot the leak. Check all fittings and there is a flexible line where it goes from the firewall to the engine. Id start there.

I think 2 and 3 might be related. Sounds as your cooling system may not be toped off. Did you burp the system after the new parts? With the heater on full heat? Hopefully some one else will chime in on this one. :shrug:

Update!

I was checking the fluid path as Hyde suggested and I realized I only replaced the slave cylinder. The master has not been replaced yet. I bought one but just never swapped it out.

Hmmm...Some 22re guys might be better suited to answer that. I know the 3.0 a lot better since I have one.

Good point on the cold start injector... but thats mostly just for getting it started, not once its running.

And just to throw this out there.. He said its a 87, which means *to me* a 22re (even though some swap them into earlier truck, its VERY uncommon) 88 was the first year of the 3zve.

Gotcha forgot 88 was the first year.

On the cold start injector he says it runs fine after it warms up.
