upcoming transmission battle

I am new to this site and new to the joys of owning a 4Runner. I recently purchased a leftover demo 2007 T4R Limited V8 4X4 with 14,000 mi. It has now begun to develop a problem with thunking down into 1st gear after coming to a full stop. I have read enough threads on this site to know this may point to a problem with solenoid(s) and/or torque converter. I have an appointment early next week with the Toyota dealer to check out the issue but they are already hinting that they do not think that there is any problem because there is no check engine light coming on and that means no problem and no codes. I think that is utter crap.

Any thoughts on the source of my problem or how I should approach the service folks next week? I truly love my T4R and any help would be greatly appreciated from all of you out there.

Try typing "driveline clunk" in the search feature on this site. This has been discussed VERY much. Personally I do not have this problem, but do hit all the nipples on my driveshaft every oil change and am running synthetic in all the engine/diffs/etc.

Yeah, that sounds an awful lot like "the clunk" rather than a trans problem. The clunk is annoying, but not a big deal mechanically. While driveshaft lube doesn't fully solve it, it does help keep it away.

I am new to the forum so I can't thank you enough for pointing me to the thread concerning the clunking issue. I am now on page 17 of the 26 page thread and my wife is yelling at me because I won't come to bed....thanks a lot!!! Seriously, I really appreciate the help and it is intriguing about the Lexus fix...
