Just checking in since I don't post too often. I had to get my tires and front struts replaced last week so I thought I would let everyone know what I thought about the tires.
My 4runner has about 167000 on it now and this was my 3rd set of tires. Silent Armour tires lasted about 80,000 miles and I installed them when I had about 90000 on the odometer. I upgraded to the 70 series and got 10 ply because that was the best deal at discount tire at the time. Overall, these tires were better then the stock dunlops and the bridgestone revo 1's but they were rough on the gas mileage since they were such heavy tires.
Did great going through all the NM and CO snowstorms and had great grip in the mud during 4 colorado hunting seasons. Never had a flat despite all the rough terrain I went over.
Replaced the tires with Hanook(?) Dynapro ATR because tire prices have gone up considerably since 2007. I hope they last as long but I doubt it. Discount tire had them for 163 for the 65 series and then a 100 rebate for memorial day weekend so that comes out to 148 each. The only other tire I could find that was less was the falken rocky mountain at 133 but I don't like buying the cheapest option when it comes to tires. I will update on the tires periodically if anyone cares.
Got the front struts replaced at pep boys and they put on monroe struts and it rides a lot better now. My tires were wearing unevenly and had a bad vibration so that is how I know I needed new struts and an alignment. 1st alignment on the 4runner.
Everything is holding up fine except for a clicking when I roll down the front window and the oe tapedeck makes a clincking sound when a cassette adapter is being used.
So far no issues with overheating or misfires on #6 as others have reported. I also don't expect any. Search for other posts if you want to know about my lack of maintenance on this vehicle.
