Upgrade for backup lights?

I ended up going with these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G2U0LHY/

They were a lot cheaper than SuperBrightLEDs (though I have ordered from them in the past and really like them)

These pictures are after I replaced the left one; right one is the ugly stock halogen. I like the color a lot more, and they're bright, but I still have to roll down my window to see behind me. I have very dark tint.

They light up very nicely. the reverse light circuit triggers a relay for power

This is my current auxiliary lights setup. Have them connected on a 3-way switch. I can have them OFF, ON with reverse or ON all the time. No drilling required.

I have 30w LED reverse lamps they are bright. There was a LED hot spots thread with the info on them. They are great.

I upgraded my reverse bulbs to LED like others, and added a pair of http://a.co/gkif3Ca to the bottom of my bumper using existing holes

I wired them straight inline into my tailights as the draw of the LEDs are less than the stock incandescent bulbs. I've had no problems with them and they are bright AF

I realize my mounting choice is not ideal for wheeling, but I don't wheel, so I'm not concerned about tearing them off on the trail.
 
As [MENTION=46730]MONTYMTB[/MENTION] said, I used some LED lights from Amazon, and mounted directly to my bumper. Then I wired them in to my reverse lights. Total cost $25. And about 2 hours. Still working well a couple years later.






so did you pull power from just one back up light or do I need to pull them from both
I was hoping just to pull form one side and split it down below

I pulled from each light. Each of the auxiliary lights is connected to the stock reverse light wiring. It’s probably easier to do it that way than one wire for both.
 
Does anyone know if I can get this LED Tailgate bar to be hooked up by the 3rd brake light? I don't care if it covers the existing one since this will act as like an all in one light (brake/reverse/turn signal)

I was thinking i want it high up here (see red line in pic) since it'll accent the turn signals / reverse lights well. I just don't know how someone would wire this

That's exactly how I hooked up my reverse add on led bars. :)

What's the current draw of the bar? As you may be able to remove the bulb and have enough power. You dont want to exceed the circuit capacity and blow fuse or melt wires.

2.4 watts for the 48inch that I was looking at.

I'm just curious on the wiring and if it's doable so I can go take it to the same shop that wired my power magic pro for the Dashcam

I am not sure what the standard resistances are for the stop circuit
are with normal bulbs with and without trailer attached.

Stop has a 10amp fuse in it.
So Fuse blowing values for the circuit are as follows:

using 12V as that is what the system basically is

20Watts
1.67 amp max
and 7.14 ohms of resistance

You have to be below these values or the fuse will blow.

{That if i did the math correctly..:-) }

As you can see lots of variables plus if you hook a trailer to it the values change as well.

Umm unless I’m missing something you should be able to have 96w total circuit load before you need to worry about wiring and fuse blowing. 96w is 80% circuit capacity.

Thanks for the quick maths on the 96w lol. It's not gonna be anywhere close to that.

I do have upgraded reverse LEDs similar to that but I'd like something more lol. Figured if I get those LED tailgate bars that are all in one and mounted up high, that'll do.

Once I get talking to my guy that will do the work to confirm, I'll post pics of the completed work.

Correction:

Ie = p

120w blows fuse
10amp blows fuse
120 ohms on circuit blows fuse

Those numbers look better.

I agree I wouldnt go over 80% of total circuit capacity. 90% would be pushing it.
