Upgrade Stereo w/ Steering Wheel Conrols

Noobie and would like to update my audio system a little bit. Ive had subs in my car before which is leading me to put atleast one it in this rig. Didnt find anything about an aftermaket system with the stock steering wheel controls. Yes im like everyone else would like to keep this as stock looking (exclude the HU). But I really want the volume and seek buttons. I have seens an attachment on Crutchfield thats hooks the aftermarket HU to your stock JBL amp and an other attachment which uses the steering wheel controls. Question is, has anyone used the attachment for the steering wheel is it any good. In some reviews ive heard its hard to hook up with lack of directions?

Well I'm heading to a Custom Stereo shop in town on my lunch break and want to see what it would be for the system im talking about.
-DVD reciever Head Unit
-pioneer sallow mount 8"sub(stock location)
-mono amp(for sub)
-Steering wheel hookup

Ran all this on Crutchfield came out under $1000 intallation is the hard part i want this to look good an know no wires are hooked up wrong. So we'll see what they have to say. I'll keep you guys updated.

steering wheel controls are easy as long as you can read instructions....You can even visit PAC's and Peripheral's website and they show diagrams for each vehicle.

The cool thing about letting a shop do the installation is that if something messes up is its their problem, not yours. However, if its a product failure then it becomes your problem if you didn't buy the stuff from them.

I installed the PAC SWI-PS (-PS is for Pioneer and Sony head-units) and think that it works great. They recommend soldering all of the connections on it and, from experience, I concur with that recommendation. The wires are really small and standard connectors won't give you the connection that you need.

every electronic company is going to recommend soldering because in EVERY application it is the BEST way to create a connection.

I've never soldered a connection and never had a steering wheel interface problem. The wire is thin, so you just strip back about a 3/4 of an inch and fold the wire twice to make a thicker connection which is easier for crimp caps, scotchlocks, spades, etc...
