Upgrade to 2022

The deal is a good one but is it good for you? Here's what I mean. If the $15k, financed or not, is no problem then go for it. For $15k you'll have that reset to zero miles, warranty, and no rush to replace it for years to come.

This isn't from the armchair quarterback. Faced with a very similar question I traded a '19 with 30k miles for a new '21. Driver was keeping my total cost per year low and locking in on these stupid used car values now.

Side bonus, I've been pleasantly surprised at how a couple small improvements have me enjoying the new one much more. LED headlights are a great improvement. Push button start is nice too. I also think the sound system is better. Really had trouble hearing lyrics, especially at highway speeds. It's better now.

I think it worth it. In the matter of fact I ordered new 2022 4Runner back in October and it's supposed to come in January. My main consideration was first of all that my 2010 4Runner is getting old and with all inflation and possible economy issues - if something breaks I might not be able to find parts or wait for parts will be long.
Also chances are that new vehicles will be more expensive next year, so by getting a new 4Runner now I hopefully have another 11+ years of worry free driving. And my final thought was that I might not like 6th generation as much and rumors are that 6th gen comes next year. That was a bit of gamble of course, but I guess 4Runner holds its value well and it won't be too hard to upgrade it if I like 6th gen that bad.

Great thoughts, I agree with you completely. I did end up putting a deposit down. Going back to zero miles and the small improvements are definitely worth it in my opinion. I'm glad to hear you're noticing the improvements!

Very true! I thought about the 6th gen too, but if we end up not liking it as much, now we'll have the newest year of 5th gen. If it ends up being great, easy enough to upgrade later on. Enjoy your new 4runner!

that's very tempting to do, it does not make sense not to upgrade. that's the dealership's goal, to sell you a new one. the question is, do you really need it? having another one, you'll have to pay taxes again and other fees and in addition to your existing loan, you'll add another 15k. in the end, you are still in the loosing end. for me, it's not worth upgrading for those little small convenience.

Very true! I thought about the 6th gen too, but if we end up not liking it as much, now we'll have the newest year of 5th gen. If it ends up being great, easy enough to upgrade later on. Enjoy your new 4runner!

Good thoughts as well. My main reason to upgrade is to go from 70k to 0. I actually am not financing at all, and with trading in, taxes on the new 4Runner are small. I agree though, it's not right for everyone. In my situation, taking advantage of making well over what I paid for my current 4runner, going back to 0 miles, and a new warranty, makes it worth it for me.

I hope you did it. I just got a new 2022 4runner, upgrading from my 2000 and I was sad to lose manual transmission, but what I gained...wow! I know you had something newer before, but I'm in the same boat of releasing old things to move through the new markets.

I'm probably going to sell my 2000 for a little more or the same price I bought it in 2018!

So, did you go through with it? I'm considering doing the same with my 2018 now that I'm at 50k miles. Some of the offers I'm getting are close to what I paid for it new...only issue is finding a 22 with close to the same options...

I traded our 2018-4WD 4R this year, paid $36334 for it April '18, dealer gave us $36584 for it on new trade to a '21 Tacoma TRD. I just traded that Tacoma back for a new 4R, $139 difference. The Tacoma was for towing a small E-Pro RV.
Sold, it and decided to go back to a 4R, our 6th one since 2008. These pictures from wifes sisters house in Cincinnati. Trades done here in TN.

We just sold our 2010 Limited with over 200,000 and picked up a 2022 Limited new. Very similar but the added tech such as CarPlay, safety sense, and blind spot are very welcome improvements.

The 2010 always felt underpowered in braking and the 2022 is much better.

Overall much more refined feeling, but that is compared to a 11 year old suspension. Best vehicle we ever owned....nothing breaks on these things.

We wanted the old powertrain so we bought now. I like a V6 and a transmission that I know will go forever (do a drain and fill every now and then)

Yes I did, new one will be here later this month! I ended up going with a SR5 Premium without the 3rd row. Considered an Offroad Premium but decided I just didn't need that. Good luck on your search!

Thank you! My search was quick and successful. Found a 22 Lime Rush Pro that wasn't marked up $10k+, low MSRP, pretty basic with hardly any dealer add-ons and with the trade in value they gave me for my 2018 OFP it was a no brainer.

It was a right place, right time deal. Still can't believe it, even looking at it sitting in my drive way. The used market is absolutely insane right now...
