Upgrading 04 V8 to 05 V8VVT-i ?

Hello, folks!

Just joined this forum to learn more about tricking out my 2004 4Runner. I would appreciate any useful comments for the following question I have:

Just read in a magazine that 2005 model of 4Runner V8 will come with variable valve technowledge (VVT-I) which will increased the horsepower to 270 from 235 (of 2004 V8). Is it possible to "upgrade" my V8 with the VVT-i to result in the boost in 35 more horses?

Yes, it is possible to upgrade. Take it to the dealer and tell them you want to do that. The sales dept. handles this upgrade - not the service dept. The upgrade also includes an upgrade to all other engine components, new suspension, new wheels and tires, new body, new interior, new everything. It's a pretty sweet upgrade. Kind of pricey though.

Other than that, you're out of luck.

your options are to trade in your 04 for the 05, or pray that the s/c gets released again or a turbo kit is made.
