Upgrading stock speakers

I was thinking about getting a 4 channel amp and upgrading the stock JBL's in my 04 4Runner. I wanted to replace the 2 tweeters up front as well as the 2 in the rear cargo area, replace the front 6x9's with 6.5's, and replace the rear 6.5's.

My question is when I do this, do I need to upgrade the speaker wire as well, or can I just use the stock speaker wire already in place?

i don't think you need to replace the wires. i'm thinking of doing the same thing this spring. i plan on getting infinity kappa 6.5 components in the front and a 3-way 6.5 kappa in the back with infinity's new amp. what do you have in mind?

Doesn't the answer to dice's question depend on where he's going to put the amp? I mean, the stock wiring runs to the head unit. So if you're mounting the amp under a seat or in the back, you're going to have to run new wires to your amp and leave the old ones where they are. That's my recommendation, and what I will be doing.

You're going to love those Kappas, I have a set of 6.5s in my jeep. There does seem to be a break-in period with their (titanium dome or silk?) tweeters however, they might sound really harsh for a little while - couple months - but then they sound really smooth after that. Great speakers for the price.

oh yea.....i totally missed where he talked about the amp. i have no experience wiring up a car because shops install my systems for me, so i can't tell you whether to change em. i guess atomic punk is correct.

Alright, so I am planning on getting a set of Focals (either Utopias or K2 Powers, depending next week's lotto numbers) and powering them with a Phoenix Gold Xenon amp. I've heard really good things about the Infinity Kappa series too. I already have my sub amp mounted to the right rear seat, so I'll probably mount this second amp to the left rear seat.

I was also planning on adding an Audio Control LC6, since I would like to keep my stock navigation head unit. From what I hear, the LC6 will help add a little punch to the sound setup, since it's geared towards those cars with stock head units.

Anyway, so with that being said and with what atomic punk has suggested, I'll probably need new wires going from the head unit to the LC6 (which also has a line output converter built in), another set of new wires from the LC6 to each individual amp, and then last set of new wires from the amps to the speakers -- does this sound right?

When I install amps I run speaker wires from the amp up behind the radio and connect to the stock wires behinfd the radio. Easier then trying to run new wires through the door grommets. If you aren't going to compete in any SQL competions then you are fine with the stock wiring.
