Upper Control Arm Experience

I'm interested in changing my UPPER control arm bushings but I am confused because it seems people rarely change them, and the online parts diagrams vary from site to site with the specific part number...

Does anyone have experience with the uppers? I thought it might be a good idea while I am also doing the lowers to tighten up the front end...

What are the actual part numbers for Front UPPER control arms, front and back bushing? Toyodiy lists 48632B-35080 and 48632A-35080 but I can't find these online (Partsouq, etc)

I just did mine with I believe the same part number. Go to home depot and get some 1/2in all thread, they have an assortment of nuts and flat washers that I got as well. Get MAP(yellow) gas with the trigger too. Using the right sized sockets with washers and nuts, put pressure on the bushing and use the torch and you should see them slowly push out.

Drivers side for me was a pain. Couple of heat cycles and putting more pressure on them did the trick. Cleaned up insides and used a light coat of anti-seize and pressed in the new ones.
 
I was very surprised when I recently did a front end overhaul that the uppers were in tip top shape.

A word of advice: If I was going to pull the UCAs and do the upper ball joints again I'd just get the Specialty Products UCAs. More money, but better product.

If you give me the VIN I will look on Camelback's website and see if I can get you part numbers.
 
i bought all my parts from camelback toyota. go to the site and it will tell you the part numbers. i don't remember it as i did this 3 years ago. change them all, uppers, lowers, ball joints, tie rods, etc. you will feel the difference right off. OE parts are more, but worth it to me. parts like that that are an interference fit are made for metal to metal contact going in. any kind of lube can cause them to spin in the arm, causing problems later.

If you get the SPC UCA's call up Fat Bobs Garage they can sell them for Way Less than MSRP!
 
Assuming you are taking about the factory Uppers then I would replace the joint, not just the arm bushings. Buying the entire $178 OEM part from a legit dealer will be your best bet.

What would be the benefit (other than being new) to replacing the actual arm with a new OEM assemnly instead of bushings and ball joint only? Install would be easier as well I suppose

If you can do the work then definitely replace the parts by hand. I was mainly implying be sure to replace the actual upper ball joint, not just the bushings.
 
I still have to do this to complete my front end. The mechanic said they are fine but they squeak up a storm and I bought the bushings from Camelback over a year ago.

Stever1000,

I just ended up replacing both my UCAs with OEM. I was replacing the UBJs when I found that on one of the UCAs, the tapered hole for the UBJ stud was worn out and hence oversized. After 200,000 miles, I would consider just replacing the entire UCA if you can afford it.

I only have a mild lift, so aftermarket UCAs were not needed to get spec alignment.

But sorry, I don't know what the part numbers are for just the bushings. Mine were already pressed into the UCAs.
 
Thanks, if the OEM upper control arms are okay with a small lift then I may replace them with new OEM arm assemblies since mine has 181,000miles

That's my delay at the moment - the upper ball joints and bushings sound a lot more involved than the lowers, and my 4runner is my only vehicle so if I need a shop to press in/out the bushings then I am S.O.L.

The indiviudal part prices are much cheaper than the whole assembly (ordering from Japan to save costs) so that is another hurdle in my decision
