upper hose pooped out

Driving in freeway and suddenly the upper radiator hose pop out. Radiator got emptied due to fluid forced out by hot pressure. Cool off and refill the radiator then drove it to the mechanic. He checked it but could not determine the cause. He advised to replace the upper and lower hose plus head gasket. The timing chain, water pump and thermostat has been replaced several months ago by different mechanic.
Anybody have the same problem before? Any suggestion?

Maybe he meant thermostat? I would go back and have a chat with the previous mechanic. Sounds like he didn't install the clamp properly. That is about the only thing you probably need to replace.

Yeah..Playing games with you. I'll bet the clamp was just loose. Fill er up and put a new clamp on there and you should be good!

Kidding aside, if you shut down your truck right after the hose came off, let the engine cool, then refilled the radiator you should be fine. You would have to leave the engine running for a little while and let the heat build up before it would really do any damage. I would agree that replacing the radiator hoses is probably a good idea, but other than that, you should be good to go. And like everyone else recommended, find a reliable mechanic that you can trust because the guy you took it to clearly doesn't have a clue what he is talking about.

I would only go as far as the Head Gasket if it really was leaking. If you didn't run the vehicle all that long after you lost coolant then I wouldn't worry about it. I understand the technician is being cautious as often with overheated vehicles the head gasket goes (Due to either warping of the block/cylinderhead and/or burning the gasket up prematurely) but in your case it sounds like it might be fine.

I would ask the technician to perform a leakdown test of the cylinders and a pressure test of the cooling system to verify the need for a head gasket before entertaining that idea. (You'll quickly find out if the guy is serious about the cylinderhead gasket when he needs to do extra work to back it up. )

Did you have oil in the coolant? how did he diagnose the head gasket? Re-clamp the hose (get a new hose if you have to) and keep on truckin'

It is possible that hose will be pushed out with leaking head gasket… before that happens engine will be overheating (or running hot) and then you see radiator hose pop out…

Like everyone says get a second opinion.

You have also mentioned that you have changed timing chain, water pump and thermostat.. how many miles you have on that engine?
