Upper shock moves?

So I noticed a ticking noise from my front end recently and finally had a chance to look.

When I rock the front end the small nub of the shock "stud" moves around in the upper strut seat when going through compression. The truck has spacers so I can't see much of the stud/bolt or nut/washer that SHOULD be holding it tight to see why. Any ideas? I'll poke around more and take some pictures tonight, but wanted to pick the collective minds.

That shock top should be a locking type of nut and it has a torque spec. It may have come loose. Perhaps it is an old nut that has been reused too often, or someone didn't torque it correctly. I would tighten it up and see if it stays tight.
