Urban 4Runner Questions

I just found this site and it is great. I am currently driving my 3rd 4Runner (03 Limited 4WD) and its close to time to upgrade.

I went to my dealer and LOVE the Urban Runners...however, I do have a few questions/concerns.

1. I read on this forum a few of you have had issues with the TOMTOM unit and backing it up. I personally, would prefer the regular larger screen NAV that comes with the other editions, but my dealer says it can't be changed out...and having to back it up along with a smaller screen concerns me...

2. I also am concerned with the BlueTooth as it appears on their site that only one Blackberry phone is compatable and mine isnt "the one" listed. Has anyone been lucky with other phones which aren't listed??

Thanks!

I am new to the site as well, but have found some excellent info so far. As for your Urban Runner questions:

I have had my Urban Runner for several weeks now and have experienced zero problems with the TomTom, in or out of the vehicle. I too have seen some of the "issues" with these units and I just don't see it (knock on wood)! The screen is small, but not so small that it is difficult to use.

As for the Blackberry/Bluetooth issue, to my knowledge the only phone listed is the 8100, however, my 8830 World Edition paired up just fine and has full phone, address book compatibility and works seemlessly. Don't know about other models in the BlackBerry lineup besides the 8830.

Good luck,
ORD out...

Thanks for the info. I also have the Blackberry World Edition and that is why I was concerned with the compatability issue.

I am still trying to make up my mind...I may just stick with the Limited since I am used to it...that way I can get the NAV I like and the upgraded audio.

Thanks again!

I've had to reinstall the TomTom software after a few weeks of ownership but I got a bigger card and reinstalled and have had zero problems since. Some of the cards shipped with the Eclipse and Toyota units were known to be defective so it's possible that I was one of the lucky ones. Since than I have had zero problems and just in case I have an extra card all loaded up already but doubt it will ever become of use.
As far as phone compatibility, don't go by the list supplied by Eclipse. Those are only phones that were tested. Both my wifes LG Chocolate and my Motorola Razor work just fine with the system so I am guessing they are only listing the phones they tested so if for some odd reason someones phone is not compatible they have their basis covered and can just say "Well, your phones not on the list." I am almost positive that most phones on the market today will work fine. Again, just my opinion so don't quote me on that.:biggrin2:
A bigger screen would have been nice but overall I am happy with the unit. I like the fact that if I need to, I can remove it and take it with me.

i have a blackberry 8120 and it works just fine. the only function that does not work is the read/write message? but i shouldnt be writing msgs while i drive anyway right. and i cant figure out how to change the ringing volume but then again i havent really checked. ive had the car over 3 weeks now and ive only driven 400 miles and had no issues at all w. the tom tom. it froze on me once and getting it to reset w. that hole was a pain. but only cause i couldnt find a paper clip so i was using a nail. after that its been good. i just orderd the ipod interface and will install this week see how that goes. sometimes its a pain to have to remember to remove it at night to keep the thieves at bay and yes it is a little smaller but like everyone says...its not hard to see or use.

I am still shopping the Urbans and there are some GREAT deals out there...

I am amazed at how the dealers or some dealers do not know anything about the tomtom unit or hooking up ipod, etc....I have found so much more info here....

One more question...those are you ordering the ipod hookups...why didnt you use the dealer kit/cord??
