Urban Runner Advice

have the pioneer avh 4400 bt hu, sound is decent..but not awesome..thinking of changing out the stock speakers and or installing a subwoofer to make the sound awesome...............any body done anything similar?..need tips

Just want to say thanks for all the info.

Bought a UR a couple months ago for the wife, and now she wants a new HU because she cant stand CD's and wants to use her phone.

I'm sure I might thread Hi-Jack a little in the future.

Also nice buy, i'm not really a SUV guy but certainly give the 4Runner credit!

Does your UR not have the aux port inside the console? I would be lost without mine as I use my phone for music.

If it's in there it will be at the bottom of the console against the front wall.

Also I can't blame her for wanting an HU upgrade to get away from the Tom Tom though, it's not the absolute worst thing in the world but it's definitely the only thing I'm not crazy about in the UR.

Just make sure that you AUX port is on inside the HU. Took me a while to figure out that it was actually turned off by default and I had to enable it on the TomTom. Stupid feature as I don't see the point of having the option of turning it off.

Biggest reason for upgrading HU aside from sound output is the TomTom's inability to Bluetooth music stream. I hate wire clutter.

Yeah, its there, and so is the AC plug. I just couldn't ever get it to work.

to turn on the AUX you

Step One: turn off the radio (can't remember but I think you have to go all the way off to where it says Good-bye)
Step Two: hold both the text and screen button down until it beeps and tells you the AUX is active.

Thanks I told the wife, she will have a whack at it after work!

And yeah I was digging in there today to see if I had one, looks like one, has a hinged cap over it, and looks like to slots to fit prongs in there.

Later tonight when I get home I'll take a pic, and see if it works!

Found this on the forum just now. Maybe I got the button combination wrong above, but if I did try this. Evidently it is from the radio manual.

I also have the front skid-plate as well, a couple 4runners I see don't have them.

Makes me think twice about the look without them LOL.

I just saw a black UR this weekend with the front skid-plate as well and he said it came with it. He also had a the XSP badge on the back but none of the XSP features like exhaust, seats, etc. Didn't want to ask him about that as I didn't want to offend him in any way by pointing out that he didn't have the XSP package.

Yeah I haven't seen a XPS badge yet, I do have the Xreas badge though :P. But I think the only thing missing is my exhaust tip, is it not it supposed to be chrome?

To my knowledge it should have the chrome exhaust tip. I'm thinking of having my exhaust relocated to exit out the site or just hidden. Mine seems to hang a bit low and seems to be out of place when looking at it from the side.

Yeah i'm sure it was just a removable tip, I would change my exhaust up but I don't see a need in it. The wife really doesn't care how it sits and it can be a eye soar though with it hanging low like that, but I have my car to look at makes everything better!

The aux is off as stated and it takes some key presses to turn it on. You can also use the usb port on the front if its a smartphone. Will charge and play music. The ac power port is optional, some have it and others don't. I do and I'll use it to charge things instead of the cig lighter. The exhaust is just a chrome tip held on by a clamp/screw can't remember which, someone probably removed yours. I've never seen a xsp ur. Don't know how that would work lol. The xsp is usually a southeast Toyota thing I believe. They had the xsp badge, the polished 18" wheels, and a few other port added options. Nothing special.

Is there a trick to get the USB to see your smartphone? It charges my Galaxy but I cannot get the HU into USB mode to play music. I've tried pressing source and mode buttons with no luck.

Not sure if the person that had the Runner before me had the tip welded on because mine is welded but I have noticed others are just clamped on.

I know it reads iPods and iPhones music no problem. The android platform you may have to mount it as a disk drive. It should give you that option when you connect the usb. If not, see if you can select it from the drop down menu in your phone while charging.

I bought a black ur today w/every available option it had w/68k on it, new tires, nexen (not thrilled, but get good reviews). Real nice shape, rip on the driver seat bolster, for $19.5k. A year later still a good deal? I wanted black real bad, cannot find a lot of t4r's with low miles so I jumped on it.
