Urban Runner radio

I just picked up an Urban Runner last week.
I plugged my ipod into the jack in the center console and tried to switch the stereo source to Aux and it just kept switching between radio and the cd. The ipod was on, so I don't know why it didn't recognize it. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure if this is the same as mine, but my radio recognizes the Ipod as a second CD player. It also takes about 30 seconds before the Ipod switches completely to external mode at which point it reads Toyota at the top of the Ipod screen. Then you can begin playing music by selecting tracks 1-8 on the head unit display. Is the jack in the center console just an audio only plug?

I was told that it was the ipod jack. The only input that the head unit itself has it a USB port. I will give your suggestion a try tonight.

It sounds like it is trying to switch. Don't touch any buttons during the switching process. Also aux will not be necessary.

let us know how you get it to work. I bought my wife an Urban Runner as well, but didn't get to the Ipod connection, yet. Free bump for you...

Please share your feelings and opinions of the Urban Runner's radio/CD/tomtom all who have one. I'm thinking of getting the Eclipse 2210p mkII which is the same headunit but aftermarket. I really like the detachable yet in-dash navigation idea, but not so sure about the smaller screen. I wish it would have been a garmin also. So please... post what you like and what you don't.

Sorry to sink the boat, but the aux. input in the urban runners are non functional. You have to purchase the ipod adapter from the dealer....or just buy the eclipse one as it works too.

Have wanted a blizzard pearl 4runner since purchasing mine back in '06...but take away the JBL Synthesis and it just isn't worth it. The audio in the urban runner just plain blows....you can now purchase that radio at Costco for $199

Eclipse sure did pull a fast one on Toyota!

I did not get it to work last night, so maybe it is not functional. I might have a talk with the dealership at lunch today. As far as the sound quality goes, I am not big into stereos in vehicles and therefore it is far down on my list. I mostly listen to XM anyway.
I have no complaints about the Tom Tom as of yet. The screen size doesn't bother me and it is easy to use. I have only had the UR for about a week now, but I like it so far.

I have a URunner. I love the removable touch screen Tom-Tom. Radio is easy to use, GPS is easy to navigate. I went on a hike, and it even had the map of the trail off the road, which was awesome. Just took it off to the trail with me. Also, the nav screen is big enough. I wish the tom tom was black instead of silver though. It might attract attention to thieves... It screams the fact that it is removable.

On the other hand, the 6 speaker system is weak. I definitely will upgrade in the future. Passengers in the rear seats have a hard time hearing the stereo, since the only speakers around them are on the door cards located low. Another weak part is that the dealership knew nothing about the Unit. They didn't even know how to turn it on, and they said they didn't even train on the Urban Runner or the head unit. So, we are pretty much on our own on that. It is supposed to be Sat, ipod and bluetooth capable, but I have no idea how it works. I still haven't got around to reading the book.

In vue of this thread, I shall go and read the manual tonite

Do You People Read The User Manual??

if you fools read the manual it will tell you how to turn the AUX port on...not the 4runner manual, but the radio manual.

I am going from memory here so you might want to double check.

Step One: turn off the radio
Step Two: hold both the text and screen button down until it beeps and tells you the AUX is active.

Easy as that......

the dealership didnt give me a seperate manual for the radio? i didnt even know there was one? i thought it was dumb how the owners manual had a seperate radio in it. im going to have to go check into that this weekend.

so everyones certain the eclipse part will work on the deck for ipod? does it reset the ipod after every restart though and not pick back up where you last left off? if so that is stupid. if the aux works then ill go that route but that means i would then need to get a car charger on top of that too.

The radio should have come with a separate box with the TomTom Home disk and some USB plugs and charger and a manual. If it did not come with all of that I would call the dealer and ask them what's up?
Not sure how the iPod works with the radio but if you do a Google search for how the Eclipse unit works than it should work the same as the units are identical.

yes i got that box, it had the USB cables and a tinsy owners manual for the tomtom but not for the radio. but nothing else. ill recheck it.


on a side note...where is the mic located for the bluetooth? i dont know where to direct my voice.

I have attached a pdf that shows how to use the aux for the UR radios. It is not the best quality but it is what the dealerhip had.
I just got my TomTom back from the dealership because the SD card was defective. They got me a new one pretty fast.

Had the same problem myself. Went and got a 2GB for it instead. I read on some audio forums that the Eclipse runs smoother with a bigger card.

I have my portable XM hooked up to the radio through the aux jack, and I am getting a little bit of a high pitch feedback.
Any suggestions?

I figured out last night that the feedback is caused when the Xm is plugged into the 12v next to the shifter. When I unplug the XM from there the high pitch feedback immediately stops.
Suggestions?
