Urgent Suspension Questions

Hey guys, to give you an update on my 4runner. It is an 08' Sport V6 2wd with around 38,000 miles. I have Bilstien 5100 adjustable shocks set to the second from the bottom notch on the front and OME 60004 NitroCharger Sport shocks on the rear. I am running FJ springs all the way around with a cornfed 3 inch spacer in the front and a daystar 1.5 inch spacer on the rear. I am running 285/70R17 BFG MT KM2's and spidertrax spacers on stock sport edition 17" wheels.

In early January my 4Runner was keyed at at sporting event. Well after working with insurance, I placed my 4Runner in the body shop at my father's dealership. It is currently being repainted and afterwards they are installing a shrockworks bumper.

After installing the bumper it will be sent to a mechanic for suspension work and alignment. I have for him to put on OME springs all the way around. I have the OME 886 for the front and 896 for the rear.

1) What should I do about the spacers?
a) Use the full 3" spacer kit.
b) Use just the topout or just the preload.
c) Remove the spacers completely.
Note* What about the rear spacer?

2) What adjustments should be made to the Bilstiens?
a) Leave them at the second to last notch.
b) Put them on a different notch. (which one)

3) Do I need new UCA's?
a) Stock one's are fine.
b) Yes you do need new UCA's. (insert brand/type here)

My car should be ready for suspension next week so I need to know ASAP!
Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

The OME 886 and 896 are going to give you a great deal of lift 2.5-3" alone.

You really cant and shouldnt use a spacer on top of that...if you somehow did, you would need a ton more suspension pieces.

Having he Bilsteins up front is going to be good for you because you will be able to adjust the rake of the vehicle by raising the perch up and down as needed. That S-works bumper (and winch?) is really going to be a lot of weight up front, which the OME springs can handle but the springs are designed to maintain a rake to the vehicle. Plus, you got the 896's for the rear. Ehhhh....now that I think about it with it being a 2WD V6 it could set it up pretty well. You've gotta just get it all together and see how it sits. Dont align it till you get it on the ground and see how things are.

The stock UCA's will be fine with just the OME springs. If you truely see the need to Mod them ToyTec has a good option.

Or...if you've got the coin to drop!?...ICON's!

Nut Shell: Sell spacers, get the truck on the ground with the new bumper, adjust bilsteins as needed to keep or eliminate rake, no UCA's needed with OME springs. :P

Thanks man, that is some great information. I will probably get the Light Racing control arms just to be safe, also so I won't have to worry about tire width. One more question though. Do you think with just the springs it will sit as tall or taller than it currently is?

OME Coils alone will get you 2.5-3" of lift. Yes, just the springs.

If you must do a spacer above and beyond the springs you can do a small one.

Body lifts are done all the time. 1" is the most common. It causes a few fitment issues when/if you do a ARB/Shrockworks/Demello (Frame mounted steel bumper). Causes a larger gap between the top of the bumper and the body.

***Troll around in the Gallery section of this site and check out what others are running. You will know the minute you see a rig that you like. When you find it...read the thread and or signature of the person who posted it!

Ags is right on. Don't use spacers with the OME unless you use their small top-out spacer on the front.

You may want to look into the 896's a little more, as I feel they will lift WAY too much. The 895's will lift the rear 3-3.5" and the 896's will lift another inch or so more than that. The 896's are meant for people carrying over 330lbs in the rear (i.e., bumper, drawers, fridge, etc). You will have a terrible amount of rake, as well as stiffen the ride drastically.

You don't NEED new UCA's but I recommend them. Your truck will be much more stable when you get that caster back in your alignment.

Why aren't you using OME shocks too?
