Used 2007 4Runner Limited v8.

I'm looking at getting a used 2007 4Runner Limited with a V8 with 38K miles. This is my first time looking at a 4Runner. What should I look for when looking at it and test driving it? How is the reliablilty of the 2007 V8 and tranny? Should I get an extended warranty on it? I appreciate the feedback.

Very unlikely anything can be mechanically wrong with T4R at 38K miles. After I test drove mine 8 months ago I bought it right away, same day, just could not resist, it was PERFECT in & out and I had 60K miles on a clock. Just make sure you see Carfax and maintenance records. These two are more important in a long run and affect resale value.
V8 is a monster and this engine been around long enough and shared many other Toyota platforms for a reason (Land Cruiser, Tundra, Sequoia, GX). You really have nothing to worry about. This engine with regular mantenance will outlast body panels.
When it comes to warranty its up to you. If you want to have a peice of mind - get it, but I really doubt now I will ever use mine, I feel like I wasted $2000 :nono: and should have invested these money in a lift kit and other goodies instead :bash:

I bought my '07 v6 limited used with roughly 28k. I looked it over REAL good, checked carfax, test drove it, did the brake without holding the wheel for alignment issues, crawled underneath with a flashlight, checked all the rubber parts both in the engine and boots, all lights working, manual in the glove, brake pads for percentage of wear, etc... pretty much all the normal stuff. One thing I forgot to check was making sure I received two sets of keys with key fobs and a valet key. I also didn't realize that my truck came with an alarm, I think it's Toy's factory alarm but my key fob doesn't have anything extra for arm/disarm so I'm not sure if the used dealer was suppose to give me another key fob for the alarm. Anyhow, mine came with the tow hitch and Toy provides a receiver when you buy it brand new. I got the receiver as well.

About the extended warranty, I can honestly say I don't think I would ever buy one for a Toyota. I have 2 generations of Toy owners in my family. Starting with my Mom's 2 Celicas in the early 80's and then my Pops '89 sr5 22re truck. Then my wife's Sienna in '04 and now my '07. None of these cars ever gave us a problem. And many of them with through some rough years of wear and tear. To this day my Pop's '89 truck is sitting in my driveway and I can go out there right now - crank it, take it to home depot and hall all the stuff my wife wants done to the yard. So for me when purchasing my used '07 I opted out of the extended warranty. (Boy was the used dealer mad when I rejected all his tries on the ext warranty options) But hey, the warranty really is for each person's own peace of mind. My peace was without it - provided my history.

In regards to the alarm on the Limited, the key fob (remote) is no different than the SR5 or SE with or without the alarm. It's a 4-button remote, Lock, Unlock, rear window down on one side, red panic button on the opposite.

The alarm on the Limited just beeps the horn if the doors are opened without it being unlocked by key or remote. You can test for the alarm if it's SR5 or SE by reaching in and opening the door after leaving window open and locking the vehicle.

You should receive two masters (black key heads), one valet (gray key head) and two remote fobs. If it has navigation there is a seperate supplemental navigation manual in addition to the regular owners manual. There's also a quick reference booklet. You should also get the pigtail trail brake controller hookup, it's a white connector and I believe it has seven wires.
