Longtime lurker first time poster.

Looking for your thoughts on buying a 4-Runner as my Jeep Liberty has given me nothing but problems since I purchased it a year and a half ago.

Stats on the 2007:
Limited
4.0L V6
4x4
Gray
Tow hitch
JBL Audio
Miles: 20000
Comes with Certified Pre Owned Warranty
Price: $31600 (includes 1600 to ship from Seattle to Alaska)

Stats on 2008
Limited
4.0L V-6
4x4
Tow Hitch
JBL Audio
Nautical Blue
Miles: 17
Price $35,142

I can afford both, color isn't an issue and the options are identical but should I be wary of a 1 year old vehicle which has relatively high miles but comes with the extended warranty? Which would you guys choose?

Edited for spelling.

If it were me man I would go new...the difference is not that much at all really, at least in my books...and mileage is rather high if you ask me in the context of the price differential...

My 2 cents...

Besides, there nothing like have a new vehicle, not to mention the fact that you know the complete history of the vehicle because you are the one making the history...

Good luck

Cheers

Good question. I'm assuming they have the same engine.

If the new if from a local dealer, then I'd go with it. That way, if there is a problem you have someone local to deal with. Plus, there's a risk of shipping damage in the Seattle-to-Alaska trip.

The price you have there for the 07 is only $1,000 less than I paid for my 07 brand new. Mine is an 07 Sport, V8, 4X4, JBL, basically everything except leather. And with that one having 20,000 miles, I would just go with the new 08.

The '08. The discount isn't big enough for a one year old vehicle with that many miles. The plus though is for that many miles, most are probably highway.

Shows how well resale is on these things. I'd definitely would go with the '08. Same situation I found myself in this past fall when I bought mine. The 06's weren't that much cheaper to justify me getting used versus a new '07 that had no miles and no wear and tear on it.

I prefer the color on the 07. But since the color and the money are not an issue to you - got with a NEW truck.

To check those prices, go to kbb.com and price out a 2008 with the options the candidate truck has.

Go to the used section and enter the 2007 candidate.

I think the 2007 should be MUCH lower than a new 2008. A new car/truck buyer takes an immediate 20% hit the nanosecond he/she drives it off the lot. That would be 6,000 not including the discount for the mileage.

You'd be surprised what used 4Runner's are going for on the lots. A dealership may try to beat up the individual on their offer for it, but resale or private sale of the trucks are up there. Again, for the price difference, I'd simply go for new.

The 2008 is $300 over invoice through a car buying service I have through my bank, USAA.

Is there a rebate where you live? There is where I live.

You should be able to get it for below invoice w/ the rebate.
