Used Off-Road Tires Question

I realize that this is going to sound extremely noobish, and I apologize. I'm a computer guy, with virtually no experience with cars whatsoever. That said, my 2003 4runner I fear is going to make my into a gear-head.

I've got pretty new Michillen Latitude Tour tires on my truck that I would like to keep as they have a wonderful on-road feel, which is where I do 90% or more of my driving. I'm planning on starting to do some off-roading and I've heard those are terrible for off-road, and I was thinking of picking up a second set of tires for when I make off-road trips, but pricing them out new is close to $2k, which is a lot for something I'm not sure about yet.

I was poking around on craigslist and I found an ad for BFGoodrich 31x10.50x15 "KO A/T T/A" with Black steel wheels, and I have absolutely no idea about tire sizing. What I was wondering, is if you wonderful people could advise me on both if those would fit, and if it's a pretty good deal.

Price isnt very good. and i doubt 15" wheels will fit your 4runner. Its a waste to buy a separate set of tires for occasional wheeling, just air your Michillen's down. BFG at's are not very good anyways. Its not like your going to take your stock truck through anything that hard. Tires should be about the last concern.

Thanks! I wasn't sure about how tires fare, but then again, I'm not totally sure what I'm reading about.

I'm heading up to a dirt road tomorrow, so I'll see how they handle. It helps to know how to prioritize stuff to buy.

One question on airing-down my Michillens: When I bought them at Costco, they were filled with nitrogen. Airing down isn't a problem, but I've heard it's hard to re-inflate them (I'd have to take them to Costco and they have to completely drain the tire and re-fill it with nitrogen a few times)

On my Camry, I had two sets of tires replaced by Costco, I never went back to them to add nitrogen. Besides, I find the factory recommendation a bit mush, so I usually go with 33-35 for the car and 38 for the trucks. I just add air. I don't think it makes a difference, since we've been filling tires with air for decades before laughing gas.

Actually we have been filling our tires with mainly nitrogen forever. Dont fall for the nitrogen BS, The air we breathe is about 78% nitrogen....

And laughing gas is Nitrous-oxide. Big difference. If tires were pumped with that we would have kids pulling the valve stems and getting loaded off your tires

Just fill up with regular air.
